i7 920 triple vs dual channel memory performance

Hi all, just a quick question for you boffins. I have the chance to purchase an ASUS P6T SE at a bargain price (50 quid ish). It does have one slight fault though. It can only recognise dual channel memory i.e. 4 or 8 GB. I already have 4GB of DDR3 memory that I could put in it.

My question really is this: how badly will performance be hindered by running dual instead of triple channel? How would for instance 4GB of dual channel memory with an i7 920 match up to 3GB tri channel?

If anyone in the know could give me some indication today that would be brilliant!

    Cheers in advance

    No noticeable difference in games.

What does it make a difference in? Rendering and stuff like that I assume?

No noticeable difference in rendering either to be honest, I think only things like winRar and maybe the odd transcoding job would show up anything you could notice.

Ahh :/ Have always wondered if there's any major difference for the extra cost.
