My 2 TB drive is not showing 2 TB ?????

Hello, can someone tell me what's wrong with my drive? I took a screenshot. It is reporting way the wrong size.

Also, when I try to format it, it gives an error:

Note that i have another identical one that is working fine, which can be seen in the screenshot. I have also tried changing SATA ports on the motherboard with no effect.

The model is SAMSUNG EcoGreen F3 HD203WI

Is there anything i can do? Thanks

Get the Samsung diagnostics utilities and run a scan on the drive. It sounds like it's pretty screwed. The tools should either fix it (unlikely) or give you an error code that you can give to samsung to get the drive replaced.

Re: My 2 TB drive is not showing 2 TB ?????

If you happen to use nvidia motherboard, try updating the driver. Stock windows driver have problem with >1TB drives. Easiest way to check it is to run hdtune and do a quick scan.

If your drive is second hand, it was probably in a RAID array and hance the GPT table shows a much larger size.

Or you could try the Western Digital tool that you could do a low level format.

Yes, I do have a nvidia sata controller on my motherboard. I actually have 2 sata controllers so I switched to a different port on the other sata controller and it works now. Thank you
