    Upgrade causes random problems. help!

Upgraded today to a new cpu, mobo, case. Plugged everything in and it turns on and i can even get into windows although it defaults to analogue and then shuts down. Fine, I figure. expected.
I try to reinstall windows and the dvd drive seems to be dead. the light on it goes on when I press the button so it's not dead... But it won't open and the light goes off pretty soon. Help?

Re: Upgrade causes random problems. help!

I would try running the RAM at 1333MHZ using loose timings.

To fix the dvd drive? My ram will do 1600mhz cas 6. It's not that the pc freezes, it's just that the drive won't open!

Maybe the drive is jammed? have you tried to open it with a paper clip?

I thought you said that the PC crashed when it enters windows? The C3 stepping Athlon II processors support DDR3 at 1600MHZ officially although the C2 stepping CPUs only support DDR3 at 1333MHZ officially.

Also it seems like the disc maybe stuck in the drive. You might need to unjam it:

If the dvd drive is stuffed then so be it. How do I get the pc to display an image onto the Monitor though?

I think it tries to init through the onboard first although its a bios setting which you can force either way, although it should auto detect

Re: Upgrade causes random problems. help!

Can you get into BIOS? Have you tried only using one RAM stick??

Also it maybe worth trying a PS2 keyboard instead of a USB one as I had a motherboard once which would not boot due to this!

If you are in the BIOS it will display an image on the monitor. Alternatively you could try something like Damn Small Linux which will run off a USB stick.

I can't get into bios. Sigh. This is so depressing, what have I done to deserve this. I would prefer it if it just didn't tun on at all.

Re: Upgrade causes random problems. help!

So basically the computer turns on and you have no display on the monitor?

Like,I said try one RAM stick and alternate it between the slots.

Also try a PS2 keyboard instead of a USB as I mentioned earlier.

Perhaps even clearing the BIOS may help.

I have a PS2 keyboard. I'll much about with Ram now. :'( I actually feel like crying. Build took me about 5 hours as the antec p180 mini was ridiculously hard to get neat and I'm a neat freak. I managed it and it looks great. Except you can't turn it on.
