    Proposed up(down)grade.

Considering I hardly ever game (and I only play rubbish games that require my current 8400GS at most)
I am thinking of a weird upgrade - Ditch the i5 750 and GD-65 and sell for roughly £160. Add to that maybe £50 of my own cash and then replace the CPU/Mobo with an AMD dual core option and a uATX mobo so I can get a smaller case in the future, and get myself a boot drive SSD (kingston 64GB). THis wouldn't cost me much but would probably actually lead to a faster computer for what I actually use it for. What do you guys think?

Could do.. I'd probably just put a pound aside every day then buy the SSD in a fortnight and stick it in your existing computer.

hmm. Probably less hassle than rebuilding a whole machine tbh. I am however the worst saver of money in the northern Hemisphere.

It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me - choose your components sensibly and you'll also end up with a PC that uses a lot less power, so you'll end up saving money each time you use it as well

*looks at bank account* think I may be able to challange you for that title.

Here's a cazy idea, stop overclocking, bring it back to stock speeds and then start lowering the voltages.
The GD65 with it's active power phase and the i5 750 turbo boost function make it fairly efficent combo.

Yeah I don't really mind about power bills, not like I pay them. Wouldn't mind something slightly quieter though, so I reckon I could passively cool an athlon X2

Perhaps you could try undervolting your Core i5 750??

What cooler have you got? my hyper 212+ is probably the quietest fan in my system 90% of the time.
    It runs at 860rpm idle.

Check your PWM settings, the GD65 will let you set the minimum/starting speed of a PWM cpu fan to 0%

I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of a whole rebuild and reinstall of windows just to get an SSD. Is it possible to just move the OS over from the HDD to the SSD?

I tried to just use True Image to copy it over and I got the Drive alignment wrong and it hampered the performance of the SSD.

Someone who knows more than me might know how to do it.

I'd stick with the current kit and go for unvoltage/passive heatsink and then buy a SSD. One day you might want all the power back again (eg: maybe video editing)
