please help graphics card problems

Hello all some of you know i recently bought a new setup well everything had arrived and i had began to put it altogether. I turned it on and there was major problems with my new graphics i had lines all over the screen flashing dots pixels and just random stuff. Also the card got so hot after about 2 mins when i when to take a power connection off it actualy burnt my hand.

I've taken some pics to the best i can and a short video to show what mean. Is there something i have done wrong I'm missing or just a bad card, i must admit this kind of happend to my old xfx Geforce 60800xt and i had to replace the card.

Any advice would be much apreciated i bought the card new from ebay and have asked for a refund am i doing the right thing or being stupid because i'm doing something wrong ?.

Does the system run ok from the motherboards onboard GFX?, if so its a rubbish card send it back for a replacement or refund.

thats a good question that im not able to answer, the mobo has a strange dvi out put and i dont have the correct connector vga to dvi. has the pins on 1 side then the flat pin with 2 pins above and below on my connector the mobo doesn't have the 2 pins above and below the flat pin. Hope this makes sense.

I think its DVI-D i have a DVI-L ?

whre are you? Anywhere near Milton Keynes? you need to borrow another PCI express card to try it.. any cheap job will do....

The onboard DVI on most motherboards doesn't allow for connection to VGA monitors via a Dongle as it doesn't carry the appropriate analogue signal (that's what those missing 4 pins are for ). However, I notice you've got the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO, which - according to its Hexus review - has an onboard VGA output:



So you should just need to connect a VGA cable between motherboard and monitor...? Or have I misunderstood?

scaryjim thank you so much for remembering what mobo i had and takignthe time to check that for me. I did try to connect my monitor to that the other day but it wouldn't go in so i thought it was a com port or somthing stupid. I complelty gave up untill you mentioned this today so i took it back out the box and checked. Basicaly my monitor plug had a tiny little bend in 1 pin which i didn't noticed so when i bent it straight it went in 1st time. So i now have a working pc i was so nhappy i spent allmost £500 and i wasn't 100% that it was the graphics card but now everything is on working (using it to type this) i know it must be a dodgy craphics card and will return it asap.

VGA plugs are notorious for bent pins - I had one with a bent pin once and didn't realise so I just forced it until the plug went in, which completely flattened the pin! Still worked ok though

Glad you've got it all working - now get that refund and pick yourself a new graphics card
