Asus P7P55D Pro Install help

Hi guys,

I am in the process of building my 1st PC and I have a question about which MB power supply cables to connect? The usual 24pin atx connector has been plugged in, as has a 4 pin connector at the top of the MB. On the Asus manual it says to connect the 8 pin power connector.

Now, the 24 pin connector has an extra 4 pin slot and the power cable has a connector for this. But at the top of the MB (where the manual says to connect) it had 4 pins open and 4 had a little cap on it.

Do I take the cap off and connect 8 pins at the top or 4 at the top and 4 next to the 24 pin socket?

Or do I connect all of them?

I have a Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W PSU if that helps.

I don't understand. You have a 24 + 4 pin connector/socket? That's very unusual, and not what the P7P55D is meant to have.

Are you sure you're counting up to 24 correctly?!

What you should have is something like a 24 pin socket on the side of the board, and an 8 pin socket on the top.

To go into that you would use a 20+4 pin connector from the powersupply to the side socket, and your 4 pin into the top one, leaving the cap in place. (8 pin is EPS and more of a server/dual processor thing).

Yes I meant to say 20+4 pin...

I read another site last night that I should connect the 20+4 and the two four pin connectors for the CPU (my PSU has 2 4 pin ocnnectors).

I have the P7P55D-E motherboard (just the standard). You plug the 20+4 pin connector in the long plug that takes it.

At the top of the motherboard I have the same 8 pins as you, 4 were covered up. Now the other connector on the power supply ends in two 4 pin connectors.



Now this isn't my power supply but it is the same model. The thinner of the two cables that isn't modular ends in two separate 4 pin sockets, this is what went into the 8 pin socket at the top. I'm not sure if you can run the motherboard with just a 4 pin connector but the cap over the top seems to suggest you can.
