    Gigabyte GTX 460 - Installed

Right, well after much nudging from you lot I bought a new GFX card to replace my 8800GTX.

It's installed and from what I can tell, working. Not played any games yet though. I prmised pics, so here they are..:
    Size Comparison
    Height Comparison
    Close up of cooler.

    Heat:

I was quite suprised how much smaller it was.

I'm a bit annoyed because I thought the fan noise in my case was the 8800, turns out it must be the 2000RPM fan at the back :/ Either that or my stock cooler. Might replace the fan as it's a tad annoying. However, I could hear the 8800 under load but this one seems silent so far. I may overclock it but will see how I go with just normal games to start of with.
That and the fact that it booted with only 1 screen so all my well placed icons were moved

Currently it's sat at ~39 degrees idle, not bad as my case is pretty dire and cable management is bad.

I ordered it on Friday, payment cleared on saturday so I didn't get it until today because of the bank holiday However...the new scan deliveries are very good. I got given a timeslot of an hour so that I could plan to be in of 15:36-16:36. I looked out the window at 15:36 and there was the delivery van. Superb timing!

2000rpm is a lot if it's a 120mm fan. That needs turning down!

It won't be a 120mm on a graphics card, maybe about 70 - 80mm at the most really.

I think he was talking about a case fan. Not sure though.

Yeah, is a case fan. It shifts the air though To the point I can sit here and feel a gentle breeze. Mm, I might try and turn it down but need to get a fan controller thingy first as I'm not sure if the one I have is any good.

Re: Gigabyte GTX 460 - Installed

Most of the time increased air flow from case fans won't actually have any effect on temperatures. You probably can reduce that case fan speed significantly, without detrimental effects.

Yep. I decreased the speed of my case fans down to 1000 RPM from 1600 and has had a negligible effect on case temps. Is easy enough to check any corresponding temp rises to see if the noise reduction is worth it.

Was considering the 1GB gigabyte 460 or 1GB MSI 460 cyclone. Anyone know how the noise compares?
