    Re: 1st build complete (almost)!!!!

Ok so just got Win7 installed and so far so good. Need to call MS tomorrow to get product code due to it being an upgrade disc but other than that it went really smoothly.
Win7 updated all my drivers during install. Ran Nvidia scan which said i had the latest version. Edimax wirless card is working without a hitch.

I downloaded speedfan and, after a couple of hours of Dawn of War 2 it said my GPU temp was 51 C which is OK i think and the CPU temp was about 38 C.

One thing is that a couple of times DoW2 went to a black screen for a couple of seconds but was otherwise fine - what do you think this could be?

Also is there anything I have forgotten here? Should I update the MB bios (never done this before)?

got MSE anti virus so im OK there... have that nagging feeling i forgot something though.

Well, you can update the BIOS, it may improve your experience a bit, but nothing major I'd assume. Helps if you're overclocking, though (or so they say).

I would only recommend updating the BIOS if you are having problems that are positively attributed to the BIOS.

Plus, upgrading BIOS can brick the motherboard if it doesn't work properly.

    Re: 1st build complete (almost)!!!!

Cool, well its all been fine, everything worked once windows was installed and have had no problems so far so i'll leave the bios alone. Been running Starcraft 2 and Dawn of War 2 with no problems. I think because I was totally expecting some software hiccups or hardware issues that I was immediately suspicious when everything just worked. Thought I had to have forgotten something but maybe I was just lucky (touch wood)

yeah, my first two builds also went without hiccups, no crashes on my i5 machine for 8 months that I had it, was a fine beast
Oh well, I downgraded to have cash in hand and a nicer case, I knew where I stood

    Re: 1st build complete (almost)!!!!

I have to admit updating the bios is one of the things that still scares me after years of doing it, only had one bad flash, unfortunately it was a HP proliant server. So it was scary as hell to try to fix, it killed the nic (a bit of a problem for a server), however i managed to rescue it using a broadcom flash. I did not have too many people shouting at me.
