    Gigabyte GTX460 1gb overclocking?

    Hi,

Been using the above mentioned card in my system now for a week and I really happy with it. Literally cannot hear it and it runs any game I have thrown at it so far.

I am tempted to try OCing a little but need some help. When increasing the GPU clock can you give any guidance on what voltage increase to apply, if any. I would like a modest increase. Say no more than 800Mhz as I don't want to spoil the silence! DOwnloaded MSI Afterburner but haven't changed anything yet.

    Thanks

Using MSI Afterburner, I managed to get about 825MHz without having to weak the voltage, then got up to 850 MHz with a mild voltage overclock.

    I recommend trying this: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/overview.htm

    Re: Gigabyte GTX460 1gb overclocking?

The card you have is the dual fan one yes ? I think you won't even need to touch the voltages to obtain 800mhz core so you should not need worry about extra noise/heat issues.

While it's usually best to take a slow approach to overclocking, because the GTX 460 is such a well known overclocker I would bet that you could whack the core straight to 800mhz (linked with shader) and the memory to 2000 without any voltage increases, there are plenty of people who have done this including myself.

What I would do is start at 800mhz core and 2000memory and attempt to find the highest overclocking you can obtain without any voltage increase, if the card works at the above speeds I would then increase the core clock in 10mhz increments and test it in your games, when you are met with instability issues I would back off by 10-15mhz and settle there, do the same for the memory.

If you are met with instability at the 800mhz region then increase the core voltage as little as you can til this problem disappears, it won't take much honestly.

I would not be running Furmark or any other Benchmarks to test the stability of it either, the stability of the overclock should be determined by the programs you use, if there is no instability there then you are good.
