    Switch

    Hello all,

    I am looking for a switch for my room and unsure as what brand to get.

    The following will be connected to it: -

    2 PC's
    • My main PC (Gaming etc)
    • VM Machine/ whatever I use it for

    PS3
    Laptop/ Netbook depending on which I use
    NAS (Maybe at some point)

    So come on you 'orrible lot, recommend me some hardware

    Budget nothing stupidly expensive but not so cheap it will fall over quickly.

    Support of Jumbo Frames isn't too important, I don't even know if my NIC supports Jumbo Frames.

    Ok I will get googling for that.

    Need to wait for room to be move about/ re-setup and then I can decide when to put it, may well just be under the bed or on a wall.

    Had this for a few months now, no issues whatsoever.

    Currently got all my kit running through it at (where supported) gigabit speeds.

    The netgears are a.little prone to bad capacitors, atleast in my experience.(4-5 out of maybe 10-12)

    There isn't much difference between unmanaged switches, ZyXEL switches are pretty well-regarded and pretty cheap too. Gigabit or 100 5-port switches are available on Scan for around £20 and £10 respectively. There are also 8-port versions of the above.

    The basic netgear switches are decent http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...205&CatId=2733
    ok only 10/100 but if all you're using it for is internet access on multiple devices then T10 is all you'll probably need.

    Ok shifting large files across machines will not be pretty and I'd not want to try video editing on a VM on t10.

    Cheers for the suggestions guys, going to give it a little bit of time then decide which to get, althought the Cisco one looks decent.
