Yes please! But try not to make it sound too much like PC Pro's A-List! ;)
Ours will be definative :)
Oh ok then. ;) You can call it the H List!
would a 'avoid at all costs' or 'not my cup of tea' lists have to many legal issues?
Did you watch Top Gear slay the City Rover? If they can do that, then why not?
I think its a good idea as well, and if you could do best AMD + best P4 mobo etc
I like the idea; it'd have to be fairly extensive, though, to cover multiple platforms. The "This sucks more than a Dyson" list'd also be fairly useful.
sounds good to me :) ,so long as it explains why a thing is good or pants then it should be ok
Excellent idea!
It will be more accurate then PC Pro's Alist because hexus reviews are far quicker off the mark and the alist can be updated immediatly. Whereas PC pro's is only updated once per month.
We will have to call it something other then the A list though.... any ideas peeps?

Sounds like a nice idea :) .
Regarding the PC Pro Alist it would benifit from a few more price ranges. Ie not just showing what is the best of the best but also the best of the mid range and best of the budget etc.
That is something you could bear in mind.

OK I'll shut up already.
It would be pretty good to have, much easier to work what to spend money on next! Like others have already said, a short summary would be handy so that you can see what its pros and cons are quickly.
I would also say that it needs to have several different price ranges from the very high to budget.
I think its a great idea - NICE!
Very good idea, I also like Big Al's suggestion the H List. :)
Hey david if ur ever overworked with all the hardware testing you can send some to me and ill review it for ya ;)
Nah just kiddin sounds a gr8 idea though m8y
Sounds like an excellent idea :)
who is the list going to be made up from? maybe have a poll sometime as to pieces of hardware?
Sounds like a good thing, bound to spawn controversy between the AMD/Intel camps & ATI/Nvidia fans.
Just as a point of interest, how will the poducts be tested? Industry std benchies or more real world tests?
realistically Intel camp don't have much to shout about these days and, neither do nVidia unless it's nForce related.
As for the list names, a variation on an earlier suggestion:
Hexus Hotties
Hexus Potties
:P
Interesting take on things... :)
Hexus Hotlist/Hotties is too similar to Hexus Hotpot, IMHO! :P
Well again pushing the boat out a bit further, but what you tend to find on this board is people asking what is the best setup for say £600, £800 or £1000 quid, or best processor, best gfx card etc etc.
I've always thought A-Lists could do with being based on budget, so instead of having two lists A and B, have a tab that allows you to configure a whole rig, or a single component? and then a budget figure.
Two reasons, the A-list monitor may be a 19" 16ms LCD, cost £600+ most people can't afford that, but in the true meaning of that A List if thats #1 then its #1 regardless of price, So maybe it just needs to be balanced?.
Again just a thought but hopefully might be useful?

What about the Hexus Sexus list?
Hexus Hardcore ?:)
Hot Heavenly HeXus Hardware Hitlist. sucka.
I think a simple bleeding edge / best bang for buck / whoops no budget
system is ample. - people would know their budget and could pick and choose which areas were important for them.
David, praps you could then invite companies to offer their best prices on said components, listing the best 3,4,5 prices, giving heXusers a little discount insentive to go to them, much like komplett seem to like doing on their 'support' forum here. hopefully if they were uk then newegg would have no probs.
definatley a 'booshank' idea.
booshank indeed
The curent Best of the Best is as follows!
High end vids = nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
Budget vids = ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Do-evrything vids = AIW 9800 Pro
Soundcard = SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Serial ATA HD = 740GD Raptor
Pat ATA = Maxtor DiamondMax 10
DVD buner = Sony DRU-700a
LCD monitor = Dell 2001FP
High end CRT = NEC FE2111 SB
Socket 478 mobo = Abit IC7-MAX3
Socket 939 mobo = Asus A8V Deluxe
Athlon XP mobo = Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev. 2.0
I covered it all except the mem and powersupy, oh and proc... but thats your choice.... :p
definately a brilliant idea!
what the uk needs is a site, that shows the best of each hardware in each "financial" category...
- 1 - extreme hardcore gaming kit
- 2 - mid range gear
- 3 - budget hardware
also, a comparison of amd and intel cpus/mobos might not be a bad idea, cos there are simply so many to choose from, and it might show what is best performance-for-pound... anyway, id be happy to help out, let me know if you want me to...
We are on the case ;)
Whoa! What constitutes the `best`, surley it is dependent on needs, requirements, compatability and so on. Also, who wants to take responsibility, for someone hanging on every word of a review and coming a cropper with their hard earned cash. Just look at any customer reviews on the likes on ebuyer, these people have paid out their cash and some are praising, and some are slating the item, why? Diff folks, diff strokes!
I would love the idea, but I am afraid that there are so many pitfalls
I'm sure that if the Hexus team do something like this, then they'll say the pros and cons of the item, as well as recommending different parts for different jobs. As for taking responsibility, the A-List is only a recommedation - it's up to the person buying the stuff whether they want to buy it or not.Quote:

The term "best" is meaningless without first stating an objective. You need to have a list of objectives at the top of each set of "A", "B" etc... lists.
For example, "Best Gaming Rig Under XXXX Pounds..." or "Best PiFast Rig for the Non-Gamer", etc...
The term best by itself is far too vague.
