I picked up a bargain Q9400 on ebay to replace my ageing E6750, which should mean that my current system can hold out until Ivy bridge (or at least until Sandy bridge gets a price drop). However my E6750 is overclocked to 3.2GHz, and I want to try and hit the same speed with the Q9400 so that I don't lose any performance in single threaded apps.
However, my case is a touch narrow, so I can't use full height coolers in it. At the moment I have a Xigmatek HDT-SD964 which has worked very well with my E6750, (although being a 92mm fan it does get a bit loud under load).
Should I keep the same cooler for the Q9400, or am I going to need something more capable for the quad core? If so, what good coolers are there that are 133mm (the height of the 964) or shorter?
PS:
I know the sensible thing to do would be to try 964 and see what the temps are like, the problem is that its a push-pin cooler, which is PITA to fit and remove.
