Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
Hi
So I am finally about to order some components to build a new PC to replace my current one, I am planning on using the following
Asus P6X58D-E
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...-SATA-RAID-ATX
Corsair Dominator Ram
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/6GB-%...connector-165V
Titan Fenrir Cooler
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Titan...366-K8-AM2-AM3
Does anyone know if the cooler will fit this board without overlapping the memory slots or does someone with this board have an idea how much space there is between the middle of the socket and the first memory slot.
Thanks
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
Should be ok because it'll be vertical rather than horizontal on an AM3 board. Would've thought you'd be fine...
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
As nibbler said, you should be ok . . . However due to the height you may lose the first memory slot . . . However if I remember correctly you can remove the top bit from dominator memory, it's held on with 2 screws and memory running at 1.65v shouldn't need heat sinks that big anyway.
One of thoes things I find odd, ddr3 is not just faster than ddr2 but also requires less power and runs far cooler, yet we're still getting some oversized heat sinks on ddr3 ram
P.s.
Bling! Bling!
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
Thanks for the replies, I might just go with this memory instead http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/plus-...-9-9-9-24-165V as they don't have the extra Heatsinks, I will prob order the Heatsink after I have got the board so I can measure the available space before ordering.
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
i got a p55m-ud4 with a fenrir cooler and similar rams to the first post. i had to turn it 180 so now the fan is blowing in from the rear of the case both other configs didnt allow me to use the dual channel set up. what a bummer really...
my internet is really slow atm so couldnt load yr mobo but at least you can compare it to mine. it is real beast the fenrir cooler

Thanks, how much did the fenrir over lap the memory slots on your board, looking at pictures it looks like there is more space on the board I want, overhead shots of each board comparing the mounting holes there is definitely more gap on the p6x58d-e, maybe 10-15 mm it is hard to tell.
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
Right
I now have the board/memory and all the other components except the heatsink and I don't think it will fit, I rescaled a picture from Titans web page so the on screen dimensions matched those listed on the web.
Measuring the picture it will defiantly interfere with the first slot but the memory may just fit under the fan but it is too close to call without having the heatsink to hand, also seems it will interfere with the second slot too but again it is too close to call.
Not sure if my measurements are 100% accurate but it should be good enough
Think I will have to get a different heatsink, shame as every thing I have read says this is a very good heatsink for the money.
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
my xigmatek HDT S1283 is tall enough that memory with no extra heatsinks fits under the fan.
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
Did a little looking and have ordered the Akasa Nero S, have read a few reviews and it is very close in performance to the Titan and will definitely fit ok without interfering with any of the memory slots.

Thanks for all the replies.
Re: Titan Fenrir on Asus P6X58D-E
Got the Akasa Nero S this morning, fits fine, room to spare, gap beneath the fan would not interfere with the memory even if it over lapped the sockets as long as the memory does not have the top heatinks like the Dominator memory.
