    Cooler Advice

    Hello Hexus massive,

    I have just bought http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel...io-130W-Retail

I am wanting an air cooler for this CPU, I was looking at the Corsair H70 but there isn't really space in my case for it, so air it is.

I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent air cooler for said CPU?

    Re: Cooler Advice

(this is assumeing you're using the fractal R2 listed in your specs)
Ok the Rad of the H70 + 2two fans is a bit of a thickness, should fit though.
How about the H50 instead? it's still decent and much narrower on the rear 120mm slot

That said you don't have to use the fan rear slot, how about using one of the top fan slots instead?

    Re: Cooler Advice

    Yup, still have the R2.

The way I see it/ thought about the H70 was that wouldn't it work better position vertically rather than horizontally? It wont fit at the back, or I dont think it will due to how close the back fan and front top fan are together.

Same fors for using atleast the top, back fan i think its too close to the fan at the back of the case to position it/ the pipes correctly. I dont want to buy it, then have it not fit.

Going to see if I can work out visually whether the H70 would fit the case or not, may go get some sizes i think.

Pob, I hate you for making me question myself

    Re: Cooler Advice

    The H50 definitely fits: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18110952

Judging by the picture the H70 may well too. However, regarding air coolers, a Noctua U12 or D14 or a classic Megahalems would do very nicely with a pair of Akasa Apache fans.

EDIT: Titan Fenrir will give good cooling for £30 but will be a bit louder than the above trio.

couldn't you put one of the fans on the outside of the case? Bit ugly but would work I think?

I could, but due to having a little sister id rather not, just in case.

Is the H70 not bigger than the H50? :s

    Re: Cooler Advice

H70 is bigger than an H50 yeah. Rad is slightly deeper and it has 2 fans instead of 1. TBH you could just use 1 fan but I would be tempted to go for a megahalems as it's cheaper and cooler. If it fits.

    Re: Cooler Advice

I have been looking at the Megahalems, will have to go home and measure the depth of my case before buying though.

Only had the case a few months so dont fancy buying a new one.

however that in it self is less of an issue as you might think, as the water cooler is dumping all it's heat stright out of the back of the case, unlike an air cooler that is dumping it's heat into the area just infront of the rear&top rear fans.
Also a radiator set to extract air like this will actually benefit from positive pressure rather than negative pressure as more air will get pushed through.

His setup of using the rear fan to pull air into the rad from outside is not so good as intake rads benefit more from negative pressure to pull more air through.
EDIT: sorry looks like he's totally reversed the air flow with the front fans extracting air, so it will be negative pressure.
Not an ideal layout however, as the filters are now in the wrong place and hot air coming out of the graphics card and psu will rise up and get sucked in by the h50 fan.

EDIT2, you could try this for a layout, top-front fan H50/H70 intake (add a filter to the outside), rear fan out take, top rear fan out take, single front fan intake.

    Re: Cooler Advice

Based on Skulltrail's linky, and with the usual "as far as I can tell" caveat, the H70 should be fine in that case as long as you don't also have a fan in the top rear position. All you'd have to do is decide which direction you want to move the air: if you have the H70 pulling air into the case (apparently this is the recommended option) have all your other fans venting out of the case, and vice versa.
