    Blurays

Wanting to get a new GPU that is passive (noise) and a bluray drive. I'm thinking a 5450 for that.
Also for the bluray drive, I see the LiteOn IHOS104-37 which is only £42. The thing I need to know about is software. What kind of software do I need to play blurays? Apparently the bundled software is crap. Would preferably like something that integrates with win media player. Any cheap/free software?

    Re: Blurays

I got some form of PowerDVD with my BD-RW from Scan, does the job fine from what i can tell but no integration with any other media players from my experience.

    Edit: It was PowerDVD 8.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Blurays

Well arcsoft or Power DVD 10 would be my choices. I know PowerDVD is about 60 squids on Scan at the moment. I think arcsoft is a fair bit cheaper.

The impression I get from looking around on the net is the free stuff always has one good feature missing. So I guess you pay your money and takes your choice.

I still got the software even though it says OEM, that may not be the case now however...

Seems like mixed reviews: I read sometimes that the software is great; at others I see that it's terrible. And GPU wise 5450 all good?

Depends what caveats have been mentioned.

The software offers decent video playback and allows you to flick between all the audio sources on a given disc etc. I personally don't know what more a user would want.

On the 5450 front i would imagine its powerful enough to help with the decoding of Blu-Rays as the 785G is fine in this regard so more GPU power can only help.

    Re: Blurays

The 760G IGP doesn't have the full set of UVD features: specifically I believe it does without the HD components so it won't accelerate HD content, unfortunately. I think if you want smooth BD playback you'll need at least a HD4350, although this XFX 5450 is the same price, so may as well get that

Pretty much what I was planning anyway, cheers for confirming that the 760G wouldn't be any good. I think this would be a better upgrade for me than an SSD tbh, I really don't get annoyed by having to wait 20 seconds more...

    Re: Blurays

Im using a passive 5450 in my HTPC for blu-ray playback, it does the job without issue. Spec below. I have used powerDVD in the past and it was fine, the only reason I moved away from it to arcsoft TMT3 was that arcsoft integrates into media centre and im only using a remote on my HTPC so that was important. Also TMT3 has HDDVD support and PowerDVD have dropped theirs.

You cant go wrong with either, both work well.
