Are there any PSU with fans greater in size than 80mms? In a quest for silence this is my next thing to look at when I build a new PC.

There are ones with a 120mm fan in the bottom, and just a grill in the back. Can't for the life of me remember who makes them though, just that they are supposed to be very very good.
You could possibly mod the inside fan of a psu to take a 92mm..
Ive not heard of anyone doing this though....
Probably more effective for yourself is to look into buying a silent PSU, I hear zalman and quietpc are making these....

I remembered
Fortron

They are good supplies as well. Read around the reviews.

what's this "fan" nonsense - silent pcs need no fans!

The Fortron won't cost what that costs though
Forton as basically Sparkle psu's, which is'nt a bad thing. Those psu's give great voltage readings.
does it really matter? my 350w is silent, quieter than everything else in my case and its unbranded, unless a red 'W' counts as a brand... any one know which company makes these?
mine has a single 92mm fan at the back with a grill at front
Nearly all Antec PSUs are rebadged Forton units... So that's a big thumbs up for Forton.Originally posted by GuruJockStrap

I thought Channel Well were the unbranded Antecs?
how can something silent be quieter than something else? The word silent is badly missused in the cooling of computers.Originally posted by |SilentDeath|

What I'm after is a PSU with a fan that I can run to my rheobus and set to ~ 5volts, which with, fan depending will be barley audiable when I place my ear to it.
since I'm building a new PC this is the way I want to go with the PSU I'd like one with a fan >80mm as it will give a greater aiflow/noise ratio...blah blah
I want to be able to make my PC silent at night (or as close as). I have seen the passively cooled PSU and the price is stupid for something which is little more than a standard power unit with ramsinks stuck to various parts of it. Even now when I need to run my PC @ night my YS-TECH 80mm (low noise) is set it to about ~5volts and even though it pushes next to no air its still enough to cool an idle PC.
Does anyone know where I can get these forton PSU they look very tempting? Excellent looking piece of kit for low noise computing.
the only place that i remember seeing them in the UK was at OCS, whom are no more, you can get them here though (currently in repeat order) :- http://www.pcsilent.de/en/products/q...pplies_300.asp it's a german site but shipping charges aren't too bad, and being in the EU no vat or customs duty, think you may have to pay in advance though.
found one guys (and gals ) over at kustom, http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/product.php?view=1742
Can't say I have ever heard of this one though - reasonabley priced.
meh
OMG!, thats a damn big fan!
Should do the job I suppose
Codegen is a pretty solid make... It should be quite good.
