    Force shut down on PC

I have a carPC up and running (does what it says on the tin) which has been working quite happily for the last few weeks. I currently have a switch up front which turns the PC on/off (like a standard PC switch).

I have the PC set up so when the power button is pushed, the PC shuts itself down. 80% of the time this works fine, but every now & then it 'forgets', and pushing the power button does nothing, even though the settings are set to 'push to shut down'. I have to change the settings to something else (ie 'sleep') then change it back to shut down before it works (usually). This time around is isn't doing as it';s told. Despite being set to shut down when the power button is pushed it doesn't, it just sits there.

Can anyone think what would be causing the PC to do this? From a carPC forums my wiring etc is all set up correctly so it is a PC issue!

    Cheers guys

Try changing the power plan settings as well. I've noticed they don't seem to be linked. Control Panel -> Power options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> Power buttons and lids -> Save Changes.

As an alternative, you could always write a batch file with the command shutdown -f then find a way of conveniently running it.

Re: Force shut down on PC

    Create a batch file:

    Code:
    shutdown -s -t 00
    Call it whatever.bat

Drop it in System32. Then start --> run --> whatever.bat

Job done, alternative create a shortcut to it on your desktop.

Re: Force shut down on PC

The PC shuts down fine if I go through the normal start -> shutdown through the start menu, it's using the power button to do it all that I am after. I will try the different power schemes when I get home, but it's not the sort of thing I change. The odd thing is the fact it works for a few days, then just stops for no reason. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Force shut down on PC

Sounds like my home PC running Vista.

Every so often, for no reason, it changes the power saving options for the monitors.

Theyre normally configured to show the screensaver and never go to sleep, just sometimes it randomly changes itself to make them sleep instead.
