    Help me, no power

Received my replacement rma motherboard from scan installed the motherboard into the case. Connected everything and it does not power for some reason. I tried the power switch connector on the case, tried jump starting it but still it did not work. The green led is on and when you try to turn it on the psu fan moves very slightly. Is my psu dead. I am very pissed off atm

    Re: Help me, no power

Try hot wiring your psu with one fan connected to see if the fan works and therefore your psu.

Also have you reset the bios and made sure you have the extra 12v cable connected to the motherboard??

    Re: Help me, no power

My last power supply demonstrated the same symptoms, had enough power to make board lights come on but insufficient to power computer; fans would look like they were starting to spin up then nothing.

In the end I had a faulty PSU. If you have a spare try another PSU.

    Re: Help me, no power

Souds like an intermittent fault in the PSU to me, or a faulty connection.

    Re: Help me, no power

Had a similar problem recently that drove me crazy and was on the verge of RMAing the motherboard. In the end I suspected it was something shorting and inspected the board very carefully for anything that could be creating the problem. Didn't really find anything that was an obvious culprit except for a big blob of dust that had compacted underneath the board. I gave everything a good squirt of compressed air and to my great relief it started up and had no problem since.

If you've fitted the board into your case it's well worth the hassle of taking back out and trying to run it with the bare minimum components attached. Obviously if you've got any spare components handy you can try swapping one at a time to try and eliminate each potential cause, the most important being the PSU if you can beg or borrow another one for testing purposes.

Could also try reseating the cpu and making sure the cooler is fitted properly (not overtightened as this has been shown to ocassionally cause problems).

Hope you get sorted, I know what a nightmare it can be to work through these sort of problems.
