Hey Guys,
I've recently been having issues with my MITX build (original thread) where it would turn off after a random amount of time - ranging from 30 seconds to 30 minutes to 6 hours...
I thought it was because the 60w PSU (+ power block) weren't up to the job, so I've just bought a new 150w power block (12v @ 12.5A rather than the old 12v @ 5A one) which I thought had solved the problem (PC on all day yesterday), but hasn't (PC turned itself off again today).
Everything looked ok inside, but I thought it was either RAM related or power related. Tried memtest but the PC turned itself off at random intervals (switching sticks, only using one stick etc) so decided it wasnt that... Then I noticed that the cable that takes the power from the back of the case (2.5mm dc jack) to the PSU board (basically the board that converts the 12v into 12, 5, 3.3 etc) had a scorch mark on the plastic connector that attaches to the board:
And it's basically half welded the cable to the plastic connector and is nice and black inside.
Soooo I gave it a quick scrape with a screwdriver and the box has been up for a good 20 minutes or so, but this is not ideal; I want to get a new plastic connector and cut off the old one.
But I dont know what it's called!
It may be simpler to just get a picoPSU although I'm concerned that a) it's the more expensive option and b) i'm not sure whether the height will mean that i can't put the case back together with it in.
Can anyone help? TBH it looks fairly generic, I'm sure ive seen the same adapter in TVs/VCRs etc, just dunno what they're called or where to get a new one.
TIA!
Mark
