Are Gigabyte Motherboards any good?

I've had loads of their boards over the years and have had no real issues, perhaps other than finding their website slow when it comes to driver downloads.

The first Gigabyte board I had was when the GA6BXC which was a cracking board and the most stable one I'd had for P2/P3 back in the day.

Another happy GB user here. They are very good with BIOS updates. I reported a bug a while back and they phoned me for clarification of the issue.
Bug was found and fixed 5 days later in a new release - awesome!

I've had numerous ASUS boards over the years to. Solid boards when they are working, but their GOD DAM BIOS UPDATES drive me crazy. They have kept users waiting for ages to fix some serious issues before now - to the point where the retailers would take boards back as faulty because the BIOS was so bad. One of my older ASUS boards wouldn't boot from a disc until the 3rd BIOS update for the board....nightmare.
I've also found them to be very picky with RAM. Way more than any other brand. Mixing RAM in them can be hit and miss, while my GB's never have an issue.

Of course, factor price in and what you're going to use the board for before hand.

Most GB's have 2 BIOS these days. So you can blank one and the second one will kick in. Very handy for anyone called Zak

I`ve only ever used 4 motherboards in builds. The first 2 were MSI S754 boards which both died on me (one blew a capacitor big style and filled my living room with smoke!) I then bought a Gigabyte board instead of MSI and had 4 years of trouble free computing, in fact the board is still working fine it`s just no longer in use.

Built my S775 system and opted for an ASUS P5Q pro turbo which is currently running my pc without fault.

So in conclusion, Gigabyte and ASUS are both very good manufacturers, MSI not so much.

I've killed a GB ! My last Socket AM2 one I was doing a bios flash on it, the util warned me I was using the wrong bios to flash it with, and I wasn't really paying attention. I insisted I knew better, and one flash and one reboot later, borked board.

Even with the wrong BIOS you can normally recover provided the boot block flashed ok (and it's the same manufacturer of BIOS)

It was a dual bios board, but I could never get it to recover after that. To be honest I wasn't all that upset it was a discontinued one that ebuyer were selling cheap and I had the itch to go faster for as cheap as possible, so I stupidly sold off my intel core 2 kit and went back to AMD.

Not one of the best paths I ever took with my PC to be fair. Still I've never done that again, a case of once bitten, and twice shy and it harmed my wallet by the tune of £58 to replace the board.

Our main PC is running with the help of a Gigabyte MB, and it has been pretty much problem free. Actually, really damn good.

Recently we went for a Asus MB in my brothers PC, mainly because it had features he wanted for the price it was at, and we have also used them in the past.

When building my current PC I went with a GB board, was faulty - got it replaced with almost identical GB one, no problems for more than a year or so, half a year of 100% CPU load.

I'm satisfied with it.
