    Laptop Advice

    Hi Guys

My Brother-in-law wants to buy a laptop but doesn't know an awful lot about them. He has said that he wants it for music (I tunes etc), watching movies and basic internet surfing. He won't need it for gaming or anything like that. A guy local to him (he's from Cork) has said that he can sort one out for 600 Euro's (£530), but to me that sounds expensive for what he would use it for. What do you guys reckon and does anyone have any ideas as to where I should point him, i.e what make, model etc. He doesn't want to pay over the odds, but would like something that will last.

Thanks, as always, for any help!

P.S Also, would a TV Tuner add an awful lot to the price?

    Re: Laptop Advice

USB TV tuner about £20 eg http://lifestyle.hexus.net/content/i...em=4428&page=1

It's very easy for laptops to go to that or higher now, prices have gone up quite a bit, the very cheap ones tend to be underpowered.

Personally I'd say the Athlon x2 with the ati IGP eg http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/156-T...B-HD-Win-7-Pro
    or http://www.ebuyer.com/product/199874

    Or core i3 eg http://www.ebuyer.com/product/201719

Brands I'd say Toshiba, Asus, Samsung, hp
The Fujitsu-seimens are not bad, as are the acer (although I'm still not a big fan of Acer, teh longevity can be an issue), MSi

The biggest issue I've found is that very few have consistant build quality on every model and issues will often not really show untill a year or two down the line.
And when things do go wrong it's normally very costly to fix. (all laptops)
