Post Is it a good time to buy a Core i7 950?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm planning to get a core i7 950 to replace my old e5200. As part of this I'm planning to get Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R and 6GB of ram (probably Corsair).
I was wondering if it's a good moment to buy this kit, because I have the feeling that I read that Intel is about to cut the prices on the core i7 CPUs as it did a few months ago.

I could wait a couple of months, but since I'm a geek it's difficult to resist .

    Thanks a lot,
    a.

Intel may drop prices however also do not forget Dollar is droping at the moment, and VAT will go up at the end of the year. So timing your purchase in the next couple of months seems sensible.

There are no sizable intel price drops on my radar.

Re: Is it a good time to buy a Core i7 950?

Intel only just halved the price of the 950, it's not likely to drop too much further unless there is a mass of excess stock to get rid of before the new chips next year.

But don't worry too much about the VAT increase - it's only a few % and currency fluctuations are probably larger.

Ok, I decided to buy this now.. Anyone knows a good place to buy this? I usually pick components from scan or ebuyer. I never had any problem with neither of them.

Scan, ebuyer and dabs are who I normally trade with.

*nods* scan & ebuyer first, if they don't have what you want, try microdirect, aria and dabs (btw, dabs == BT Business Direct now ). I believe CCL have quite a good reputation as well, although I've never bought from them myself.

    Thanks a lot guys!
In the end I bought everything from Scan. I think I've stretched my budget a bit, but at the same time, the computer is my work tool... which carpenter doesn't like to have a good hammer
