Wanting to upgrade my PC to 3D

Hi, this is my first post on here and I also wanted to ask a question. I'm looking into upgrading my PC to 3D and was wondering what my options are. My current specs are below:

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 945 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) Processor
    ASRock M3A770DE AMD770 (Socket AM3) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
    OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
    Windows 7 64bit

That was copied and pasted from my order confirmation. I'm not brilliant with computers. I'll also probably need a new monitor which I think needs to be 120 Hz???? I've looked at the Nvidia 3D kit but I don't think I'll be able to use it with my ATI graphics card. Is there any similar kits that would? Thanks in advance

Nvidia 3d vision is your only option so don't get that Graphics card. You do need a 120Hz monitor, yes.

I've had that graphics card for a while now. I may need a new one if theres no alternative 3D kits.

Yup, what res are you looking at gaming at? I'd say some form of GTX460 is your best bet depending on budget and resolution.

Re: Wanting to upgrade my PC to 3D

Ati 5-series cards can do 3D with the appropriate drivers and equipment - there's a Hexus TV clip from one of this year's expos of Sapphire showing off an unspecified ATI card* running 3D. However, it's basically a DIY setup job: you can't just buy an "ATI 3D" package off the shelf. Google would be your friend in finding details, but you'll need an appropriate screen (either 120Hz or a special 3D screen with polarising filters and stuff ) etc. I think the Sapphire set-up used a polarised 3D screen and passive glasses.

    *apparently I remembered incorrectly and it doesn't specify it's a 5770!

Otherwise, you'll be looking at upgrading your graphics card to an nvidia card or an AMD 6-series card (they're starting an official AMD 3D set up using active glasses like nvidia's) when they're released - allegedly this coming week.

EDIT: here's the linky of Bill showing off Sapphire running 3 screen 3D on one ATI card

Okay thanks, looking like a new graphics card then. I'll probably start with a new monitor and then I'll need to save a bit for a new graphics card. Can anyone recommend a good monitor for about 2-300?

Just buy any 3D accelerator from the last 20 years. Hey presto, 3D. And much more convincing than stereoscopy, the 70 year old fad that just wont go away and die.

Right on to the topic at hand

IMO Look no thurver than the Zalman Trimon http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/215-Z...ith-3D-Glasses (edit: note that hasn't got the additional iz3d drivers, http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...code=MOZ-M215W that one includes iz3d drivers I think, you need to double check, youc can download a 30day trial of the iz3d drivers, but you need to buy them after that, cost $50)

Which is the one's they are using in that Hexus TV link.
Personally speaking they are the best 3d solution, the glasses are non-flicker, so no sync issuesand less head ache induceing.
Also works with nvidia's 3d vision or on an ati card with the iz3d driver layer http://www.iz3d.com/compatible

edit: There's also a 24" version but it costs more http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...code=MOZ-M240W

Re: Wanting to upgrade my PC to 3D

Thanks for that Pob, I may consider that option. Would my current graphics card be compatible with it then? Also, is the 5 ms response time for the screen decent? I've seen some with 2 ms.
