    Re: Gaming mice

There are 2 camps with the G500. Those who love the side buttons and fatter/shallower wheel, and those who hate them with a passion. I'm with the haters. As a G5 owner I couldn't get on with the G500, however most G5 users have happily migrated to it, so ymmv. You will have to decouple the x/y sensitivity. By default the G500 will draw ovals instead of circles. Ergonomics, tracking and mouse click feel can't be faulted tho.

    Re: Gaming mice

I'm a bit confused - you really like your mouse and don't fancy changing it, so you're considering changing it?

It sounds a bit like you think it's been outdated, but I don't honestly believe that the G5 has been technically superceded in the last few years. At the end of the day, all it does is translate movements of a hand into movements of a cursor - and since it's built on laser technology, you're unlikely to get anything significantly more accurate. If you're happy with it, I think there are much better places to spend your money.

    Re: Gaming mice

What about the mx518? Unless you use higher than 1800dpi then that could be an option. It came highly recommended to me recently and I'm really happy with it.
    Also saves you £5...

edit: Just noticed you're other half is paying so get the more expensive one!

    Re: Gaming mice

snootyjim, I think what he means is that he likes the mouse he has but it is on it's last legs. Mine is a bit like that, it randomly just dies after prolonged use, and i guess he is unsure whether to go for another g5 which is tried and tested and know he likes it or something new and supposedly better. I am in the exact same boat, had my mx518 for the last 3-4 years now, but like your mouse it's dying a slow death and i am unsure whether to get another 518 or go for the g500 which looks almost like a newer version of that mouse. If you do get a g500 from the gf please tell me how you find it!

I was confused by the bit where he said "must be getting on its last legs", as if it was inevitable. I'm sure he'll clear it up though!

    Re: Gaming mice

The G5 has a life expectancy of ~12 months. At that age, the wheel and tilt buttons begin to break. You'd be a fool to buy a second hand G5 tbh and brand new ones are hard to find.

Really? Mine will be 3 years old next week, used it constantly since the day I bought it and never experienced the slightest problem with it. Bar the fact that half of the Logitech logo has worn off, it looks brand new.

I couldn't see if you said how old it is. If it's still within the guarantee, give Logitech a shout, they're pretty hot on replacing broken kit.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Gaming mice

Of course, not every mouse is going to fail, but the Logitech forums are littered with complaints about the wheel. I've been through 5 replacements in recent years. Unfortunately the last replacement was a G500 due to the G5 being EOL. Practically every G5 sold on eBay is listed with some kind of faulty wheel (I scanned many auctions looking for a replacement some time ago).

How much someone is willing to pay for a brand new G5 illustrates my point:

Wow! If I wasn't so attached to it by now, I'd probably flog it and make do with something cheaper.
