    Crossbuild?

Hi guys, looking at soon getting a cheap and cheerful PC for my girlfriends brother, were all pitching in £100 each (so max budget is £300-£350 at most) for a PC base unit and was wondering if you guys can get a look at getting a little creative.

Our 'backup' plan in an AMD build from Ginger6. 2.9Ghz X4 AMD core, 4GB DDR3 ram, 240GT Geforce GFX card, 500GB Harddrive, DVDRW, cheap PSU and Mobo etc for £350 quid.

What we would like to do ideally is 'crossbuild' my old PC inot a Micro PC (a box like SugoSG06 size, like either one of these Ugly Little Things or Even Uglier little things ;D)

I want one to save space but want to keep my Q6600, 4850, 4GB Ram, Harddrive, Fancontroller, DVD drive and reverting to my little stock CPU cooler.

What I then want to do is use the case, mobo and cooler for my PC below as the bones for a 'new' PC for my GFs bro, but the entire build would need to be pretty cheap still (Including replacement parts and case for my old PC)

What we don't need *I hope* is any Operating Systems, I still have the OEM version of Vista 64Bit for my build and a free student copy of Windows 7 64bit for the new build.

Failing that, what would your recommendments be for building a new PC from scratch for £300-£350 ish that would stand up next to the Ginger6 build?

    Re: Crossbuild?

For your computer you could get an mATX motherboard such as the following:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...41MF-US2H-MOBO

You could then get a Silverstone SG01,SG02 or SG03 case. However, the main issue with these cases is that the PSU acts as the system exhaust.

I would suggest the following parts for the other build:

    Athlon II X3 445 ~ £59

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-A...MHz-95W-Retail

    MSI 870-C45 ~ £47

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/MSI-8...-SATA-RAID-ATX

    4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £58

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-%...-9-24-XMP-165V

Gainward NVIDIA 9800 GT Graphics Card ~ £71

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    Corsair Builder 430W Power Supply ~ £36

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/430W-...plus-Efficient

    500 GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 Hard Drive ~ £32

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500Gb...-Cache-8ms-OEM

    Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE ~ £13

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Samsu...SATA-Black-OEM

Xigmatek Asgard Black Mid Tower Computer Case ~ £27

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Xigma...0mm-Fan-No-PSU

120mm Xclio Orange LED Case Fan, Quiet, Clear Fan With 4 Orange LED ~ £2

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/120mm...h-4-Orange-LED

The total comes to around £345.

    5750 for £76 http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...source=froogle.

What are the corsair builders series like and do they get the coveted Golden Moose? They seem to be a bit worse than the usual corsairs.

Think I'm gonna gear up to build this instead, better than my computer methinks which will keep him very happy. I do like using SCAN as I can probably knock another £30 off in today only offers here and there. ROLL ON PAYDAY IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS!

The OP should get the HD5750 512MB instead of the 9800GT.

The CX430W is actually a worse PSU than the CX400W IMHO but there are not many decent PSUs under 40 quid ATM.

    Re: Crossbuild?

It does seem a bit scarce; quick flick on scan. Antec earthwatts 430 for 43 odd quid on today only. A couple of silverstone striders which seem okay.

Scan have been a bit naughty; the builder says on the heading that its 80+ efficiency. Its only upto 80+ in small print and on corsairs website!
