    asus p5e64 ws evolution build

So I just inherited an asus p5e64 ws evolution with a quad core EE C2D CPU and 2GB ram and a zotac GTX280 GPU.

I am thinking how to build it, it's 2 year old specs, but I haven't build a gaming rig for about 8 years! Apart from the rig I built for my boss, which is how I got these parts.

I need a case, PSU, hdd, monitor keyboard and mouse.

I would like to get nice parts, but have about 50,000yen (or about $500USD)

I am thinking 700W PSU, mid ATX case, 22-24" monitor and would love an SSD as I put one in for my boss and it is crazy fast!!!!

I know the SSD will run about 200 for a crucial 128GB.

When I look at cases, I enivitibly end up looking at the $200-$300 models.

I have seen a nice LED 22" LG monitor for $200.

So it seems I need to spend more. I also think that the 2GB ram will need to be upgraded. Should I just get another 2x2GB sticks? what is the best speed to get for this board? I read that it supports upto PC20000 Ram.

I guess I don't mind going 200 over budget, so please advice where i should cut costs, or put off till later?

Its a bit tough for most of us to find deals for you as we'll be working in £ and have little experience of where to buy. I think you are right in using what you have and getting the most out of it.

If you are going to only use one GPU a 550W should be plenty. There are plenty of good brands now but I would try to get a good review if you are going for one form a budget line of a more respected company.

I quite like a silverstone fortress/raven cases if only I could afford one.

Yes as Ginger said, a good 550w is all you should need

there are plenty of good mid tower ATX cases around which will be around the $100 mark
Have a look at the HAF 912, as you're not in the EU it'll be the basic one not the 912+ (which only seems to be sold in the EU for some totally unknown reason)

If you're in Japan (based on you quote Yen) then you could see if you can pick up a WiNDy ALCADIA XR-2 BLACK KNIGHT
Not sure what the cost would be like, WiNDy are not cheap but I do love that case.

As it's the older version of the current Alexer FX2000R4 you might be able to pick up a cheap one or 2nd hand.
The Alexer FX2000R4 is just over 50,000yen new

You'd be surprised how well 2gb of ram will still work although 4gb is much better, as too speed, on a socket775 system there's almost no benefit from running the RAM faster than the base FSB so you don't generally need any more than pc2-6400 unless you are going to push for very high overclocks.
With a ram divider set to 1:1 you'll still be able to get a decent overclock (depending on which core2quad EE you have, as the QX9770 and QX9775 both run at 400mhz base fsb)

I'm guessing you've currently got 2x1gb sticks, if so then another 2x1gb sticks of the same speed and cas shouldn't be too expensive and bring you up to 4gb.
