    VGA cooler?

What's a good cooler for my 9800GTX? Currently sits at 70C under load which isn't tons but I want it at 55-60 and a bit quieter. Akasa vortexx neo still the best bet?
    Thanks guys, Nick.

    Re: VGA cooler?

Did I sell you that one?

The stock cooler for the 9800gtx is actually very good the vortex neo will be no real improvement over it 65-70c underload is about right and nothing to worry about.

You could create a custom fan profile with rivatuner but you will be increasing the noise.

    Re: VGA cooler?

Yeah it's managable atm, probably a waste of £15 tbh. Would prefer to have it slightly quieter and apparently with a vortexx neo or similar can get it to 55C under load but tbh I'm not too fussed, only got single glazing so perhaps better to have it nice and toasty

    Re: VGA cooler?

Bleughhh I want to but can't afford it and haven't really got space (I probably could just about put a dual 120mm rad in the top bay where there is no dvd drive but that's another matter). Or a 120mm rad linked to some other kind of rad at the 200mm fan?

    Re: VGA cooler?

I suspect part of your problem is your smallish case. Just wondering what sort of temps are you getting on your CPU ?

    Re: VGA cooler?

Oh - 33C under load or something. I have great airflow that's not the problem. TBH the temps are as expected and it's not overheating. I just want something.... you know what I have no cause for complain from this cooler I just want something tbh.

    Re: VGA cooler?

I know what you mean, you've been reading people saying they've got idle temps of around 40 degrees when using the Vortex Neo ? If you'd been running an ATI 4850/4870 I'd say grab one they really do exactly what they say on the tin.

My idle temps dropped from the high 70's to 39, and my full load temps from close to boiling point to the low 50's.

I've always found the stock coolers on nVidia cards to be pretty good at keeping the thing cool though. If it's not going to make much of a difference it probably isn't worth spending £15 (which you could then save and spend in the next Steam sale )

Won't be spending any money on steam unless it's Half life ep3, have given up gaming apart from Half life! My God I love half life...

    Re: VGA cooler?

    Fallout new vegas

ok I'm a bit hyped over this

The negative pressure in the mini-P180 and no side fan is probably not helping, Are you using the back side cooler? I found that knocked a couple of c off the load

The other thing I did before I had that was I made a single slot sized duct out of cardboard that sat on top of the card with a slim 80mm fan on it, ie the 80mm fan was blowing onto the top of the card and the duct directed the air over the top of the card and out the back (I removed the pci slot blank from the slot above the card, that knocked about 5c off the temps but was very noisey

PS the only time I heard the 9800gtx was when stress testing with furmark or the old ATi tool (it couldn't read or change the card but it stressed the card well)
When gaming it never got as hot or loud.

    Re: VGA cooler?

Well when folding it gets moderately loud. temps are absolutely fine tbh, 70C under load is fine. noise is fine. There's no negative pressure though, I have an intake fan at the front.

    Re: VGA cooler?

Ahhh I didn't know what it was like when folding as I never did it, you will have negative pressure due to the bigboy fan in the top +120mm rear fan +psu fan +gpu blower vs 2 front fans (unless your two front fans are much higher rpm (or tri-cools set to high with the other on low)

Well I suppose it'll be ngative pressure but not overly negative if you get me
All fans on low except cpu fan whcih is at full speed as I still can't hear it (gentle typhoon).
