    Gaming PC for ~£800

    Hi all,

I'm trying to come up with a feasible setup for a friend of mine who is into his gaming. We've recently started work together and he's feeling flush, so we're talking about a grand for the whole shebang, however I want to water cool the system. The rough budget does not include peripherals.

So, i've been looking around trying to familiarize myself with the Intel Core i system, and with the next gen GPUs (my system is of the C2Q s775, HD4850 age...). From what I understand we're looking at a Core i5 to i7 depending on budget, an Nvidia GT450-470 or thereabouts, 6gb of RAM, and I don't know about compatible motherboards to be quite honest.

Perhaps that works out as 200 on CPU, 200 on GPU, 180 on mobo, 90 on RAM, 60 on PSU, 70 on case - is that a reasonable distribution of budget?

Any advice would be very welcome, even if it's just reading material,
    Thanks,
    Max

http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...-pointers.html This maybe of help to you - could probably bung a gtx 460 or something similar in it and come out within the 1k budget (and reduce the psu)

    Re: Gaming PC for ~£800

    Hey Max,

Just to give you an idea, the set up I have (check my system specs) was bought for about £850 over a month ago. It is definitely cheaper now so you should be able to stick to budget.
Also the mobo has SLI/crossfire x8/x8 capability so there is upgrade potential. The 1156 platform will be discontinued soon so I hear but if you plan to overclock (I haven't yet - its plenty fast enough at the moment) then the i5 760 will give you plenty of breathing space.

I know I'm biased as I have them but the CM690II case is excellent and, coupled with the H50 CPU cooler and gigbyte gtx460, its very quiet even when gaming.

That new super-overclocked version recently reviewed on hexus looks to be a peach of a card.

    Hope this helped, good luck
