Which P4 heatsink for Abit IC7 max3? help!!

Hi,
New thred for new problem as someone said the Dell heatsink isa custom job as well so not trasferable to my Abit IC7 max 3 mobo , this mobo does have a plastic fitting around the chip for a heatsink but does anyone know any heatsinks that fit this heatsink mounting on the abit IC7 max 3 mobo. I dont want to start cutting up the abit mounting so there must be one that fits into the current mount.
Need to order this today for the weekend if Im gonan get this cooky up and blasting!!

Well I would suggest getting rid of the actual P4 mouting bracket and get yourself the Swiftech MCX 4000 with a 80mm fan of your choice on top of it. These heatsinks require you to mount it to the board (once you remove the mounting bracket you willhave 4 holes in your mobo, use these to put the heatsink on with the spring loaded bolts) they are about £25 - £35 depending on where you look but its a 560g copper block, run my P4 at 3.1ghz and it cools it to 48c full load.

Failing you want to do the mounting option here are a few sinks you may want to look at.

they are the three i would recommend for air cooling, the swiftech and thermalright sinks would get my vote for performance

Thnx IM just not sure how to get that bracket off it looks tough to me and i dont want to damage the mobo altho as you rightky say the best cooling options come from doing this Ill try the 2 that u suggest that I dont need to mount as IM waaay too nervous to tey and get the mounting bracket out not to mention I dont know how to do it!1

turn your motherboard upside down and you will see 4 pins poking out the bottom. Simply get some needle nose pliers and squeeze the pins and slowly push them through :) its as simple as that :D

ouch that was simple still better it comes from someone who knows ;) Ive bought a zalman 7000 which fits the socket 478 so i can use the existing brackets that are on the mobo thansk for the help tho as Ill probably start overclocking in 6 months or so and then ill need to attach to the mobo ;)

I use a Zalman 7000 on an Abit IC7-G and it works just fine. I run a P4 Prescott and it keeps things down at 52 deg C. Prescott running on average 12 deg C higher than the Northwood. Took me about 2 minutes to fit the cooler. Should be a good tool for when you start overclocking and if you have one already then I don't see why you would want to spend money on anything else unless you wanted to go the whole hog and water cool.

I was thinking of getting the Athlon version of the zalman. I have a flower cooler on it at the moment. Will ponder that one. Hopefully yours will turn up tomorrow mate

It's a big cooler. If space in your case is tight I'd check to make sure it will fit. For my own part I could probably fit a small family in the case....hmmmm.....commercial possibilties there...

I checked the mobos that accept the zalman 7000 which is the one ive ordered and it says its ok it gonna be tight but i think i tll fit alright - flibb yeah i hope so too gonnabe along friday night :) ive rescued the ide cables so should be ok with them bought some arctic silver and solvent just in case as well. My old Dell has been stripped bare - best sight ever now to burn it :-)
