"Build a file server with whatever you have in the loft/can get cheap"

Probably of no interest to anybody, but what the hell i will post it anyway.

I have a few systems in the house, my gaming rig, my HTPC upstairs, and my HTPC downstairs.

I was getting fed up of leaving the upstairs media pc on just so people could watch films downstairs ( i was using the upstairs HTPC as a server). So i decided to see what i had lying around and build one.

    Spec of the server is.

E1200 - Got it for free

    2GB 800mhz G.Skill - Lying around

Samsung 322HJ - Had it lying around doing nothing

MSI G31 mobo - Cost me £10 off a friend

Arctic freezer 7 pro - Had it lying around from the good old days when i ran a C2D

NZXT Beta EVO - Was on today only at scan for just over £30.

120mm Sharkoon golf ball fan - Had lying around

    DVD-ROM - Old school cool.

Corsair CX400W- Bought a few of these a while back, they seemed very good value for money and have proved useful for when the PSU's die in the terribad PC world/Currys etc systems that majority of my customers seem to have bought in the past.

Firstly i wanted to try and get it a little tidier, so i removed the front esata cable and fp audio, as these wont be used.

I know its not the fastest of servers, but it will do its job nicely, its currently at stock speeds however the possible stable speed on this cheap motherboard is 2.6ghz if its ever needed.

At the moment its just acting as a file server for our movies/music etc, its also running a teamspeak 3 server for myself and a few friends.

Well impressed with the case for the money, plenty of room for cooling if extra was ever needed.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looks good, servers don't need to be powerful; mine is way underclocked and undervolted to run cooler. You got it running nice and quiet?

Cant tell its turned on, the corsair 400w is quiet for what it is, and the a7 pro is doing the job of cooling the celly nicely

I love building PC's like this, I built a whole music workstation for nothing

Admittedly it's only running a 2.4ghz Celeron overclocked to 3ghz, but it handles Lubuntu fine.
