    QX9770 OC advice

So the fan is replaced and working well.

Now I have started to plan on the OC. My board is the P5E64 WS Evo which seems to be a nice stable board with a lot of OC controls.

I have been reading that the easiest OC would be just to up the multiplier.

I did a few test runs, I have up'd to x9 (3.6GHz) and left the CPU voltage to auto. CPU-Z reports 1.256V. (idle temps 22-27C in the cores, and prime95 running it goes up to about 44C) Also I notice that CPU-Z reports the core voltage drops to 1.216V. Is that normal?

I then tried 10x for the magic 4Ghz (Which I read many people do and had no problems with auto voltages)

But when it reaches windows boot, it restarts the system.

So the obvious thing will be to manually set the voltage and then try it, but how much should I step it up? And why is the auto setting not providing enough power?

For reference, my BIOS is v2.61.

Voltage drops when your CPU isn't running at 100% to save on 'leccy - so this is normal
There may be an option in the BIOS to turn the 'drop' off though (called vDroop control/LLC [load-line calibration]). You should ideally vDroop control/load-line calibration on for maximum stability.

For 4Ghz you would probably want to set your Vcore voltage too around 1.3v in the bios, and possibly up to 1.4v depending on the chip - some people get 4GHz stable with as little as 1.25v for example.

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
