cat honestly, what card do you think i would be better off with, playing games i mean?
If the GTX460 1GB price is including postage it would be quite cheap.

TBH,both cards are very similar in performance. However, since I have an SFF PC I would prefer the HD6850 1GB as it has lower power consumption and only requires a single PCI-E power connector.

Also, the Corsair CX400W is a better PSU than the CX430W. I would also avoid the CX500W as it is rated for its power output at 30C!!

so, i will get the CX400W with the HD6850 1GB and a new motherboard that supports 2.1 pci-e eh?
    could you recomend a motherboard?

The HD5000 series were also PCI-E 2.1 too but would run fine in most motherboards fine.

    Edit!!

I would go for the cheaper X3 445 TBH as the X3 450 is not worth another £8 to £9 extra IMHO.

The money saved would be better spent on the following motherboard:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/205849

    It has USB3.0 and SATA3.0!

However, the MSI 870-C45 would still the job fine even though it uses an older chipset. The similar MSI 770-C45 with an HD6850 1GB is recommended by Bit tech as part of their current budget build specification.

Looks like it will work fine IMHO. Make sure you don't spend over £150 for an HD6850 1GB.

Are they reputable?? I have never heard of them.

Some Hexus members have used this company IIRC:

    http://www.kikatek.com/product_info....ucts_id=174540

However,I cannot vouch for them either as I have never used them.

    Don't worry about it!

The HD6850 1GB has similar power consumption at peak to an HD4850 so a decent 400W PSU will be fine.

what kind of PSU do you think would handle this card and the AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Socket AM3 95w 1.5MB L2 Cache?

    thanks guys
Personally I've always used NVidia, I've heard that ATI run at higher temperatures and are much louder, something which I don't want regardless of performance.

I have the NVidia BFG GTX 285 OC edition and it runs BFBC2 at 1680x1050 with 16xQ AA and 16x AF, VSync... Prerender Limit 1... Perfectly... Barely any frame drops even in smoke.

So there's no reason I wouldn't recommend the GTX line to anyone.

It seems that the Sapphire HD6850 1GB runs relatively cool and is not very noisy:

Maybe so, but I like NVidia unless ATI releases something clearly better in every way, I would venture to guess that NVidia is still quieter and cooler than that HD6850.

*Maybe* I'll give ATI a try next time I upgrade my System... it would be interesting to have something to compare with first hand... But I worry because of the heat rep from the past.

My main system has been a Shuttle SD37P2 SFF PC since late 2006. I have had mostly ATI cards in the system and I have had no issues with heat and power consumption TBH. The current Nvidia cards have much higher power consumption than their AMD equivalents. The HD6850 1GB has lower load power consumption than a GTX460 768MB. The only GTX460 I would consider getting is the KFA2 GTX460 768MB Green which uses only a single PCI-E power connector.

Interesting, I'll look into ATI on my next time to upgrade.

Why is HD6850 better than a GTX460? I would of thought it is the other way round (and its not because I got one )

At least a 500W PSU would be better. PSU do degrade over time and produce less power also if you are thinking of overclocking.
