    Motherboard to fit Mac Mini

Okay I've moaned on here a few times about how my Mac Mini died just after the one year warranty and the Genius Bar guys didn't know what was wrong but could "fix it" for £200. Anyway, I was wondering if there was a non-Apple mobo out there that would fit the case so I could perhaps revive my mac mini and use the other bits (HDD, Optical drive etc.)

Anyone done something like this or know of really small boards? I have a mini ITX board but I think that would be too big.

I cant imagine there is anything out there that will fit tbh. I would imagine that whatever board is in there atm, is a custom design purely to fit within a Mac Mini.

£200 isnt that bad for a new Mobo.

If you go any smaller than Mini-ITX, it's all proprietary stuff which will probably have a CPU soldered to it.

And even if there was, it would probably cost £150+

    Small stuff is expensive.

Are you sure that it's the motherboard that's dead?? What are the symptoms? If it is the motherboard then I'm afraid, as others have said, nothing else fits, hence why Mini's are so expensive. If it's a psu, ram, cpu, or hardrive issue then it's fixable.

Re: Motherboard to fit Mac Mini

The Genius Bar guys didn't know what was wrong with it. It kept tripping out the power supply and wouldn't switch on. I think they just quoted me a price to swap out bits and see what would work. I'm not sure it is the motherboard but something keeps tripping out the PSUs.

Re: Motherboard to fit Mac Mini

Unfortunately that does sound like it's the m/board that's dead but you may be able to get it repaired cheaper elsewhere. Some places on ebay are advertising £145 to repair mac minis. What model of Mac Mini is it, Intel or G5 powered?

Hmm well still worth repairing I would have thought, however if you don't want to give me a shout as I maybe interested in buying it as is dependant on condition & price.
