Gaming Rig Sub £400 w/ Monitor

I'm guity of making these sorts of posts 3 or 4 times in the past year but we now have the money available and ready and were finally gonna get my girlfriends brother a computer he can game on and make videos on.

We are going from scratch here, so everything is needed. We have a Keyboard and a mouse spare and he has a gaming headset already too. We're looking for a gaming computer that I can build (or if someone else is selling one cheaper second hand close to Wolverhampton we'd jump at it)

Key features of what I would like for him (or otherwise look at my PC I built 2 years ago)

At very least a 3 core AMD or Quad core (either make).
    A non-shoddy Mobo and PSU
    4GB of RAM (DDR3 pref)
A decent graphics card (I've looked at 5670 Sapphire but I'm really open on this)
Cheapest case possible (Xcilio Godspeed 1 is on special atm for £23)
A monitor (Quite happy to go for the £75 19" one on this to help with the graphics situation)

    http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/34...d185df03a663dc

Just found this thanks to CAIT. Aria ATI 4850 Shortstock
I can get Windows 7 afaik from uni so thats not needed.

    preferably from Scan.co.uk for this.

    Regards/ Richie

You could run the 1600MHZ RAM at 1333MHZ using lower latencies.

DO you mean I'd have to manually lower the latencies or the motherboard would automatically lower them? I say this as I'm not confident with playing with RAM timings etc

If you don't set the RAM setting the motherboard will use a default which probably be 1066Mhz and CL8.

Don't want to confuse things but
    JEDEC standard for DDR3 1066mhz is cas6 to cas8
JEDEC standard for ddr3 1600mhz (yes JEDEC goes that high on ddr3) is cas9 to cas11

If you set speed manually and leave timings on Auto in the BIOS then the memory should automatically be set to the lowest Timings based on the closest JEDEC rating (you can use CPU-z to discover the JEDEC ratings for your memory in the SPD tab.
