    Troubleshooting New Build.

Okay, just bought the final piece for my gaming build i have had ongoing and just put it all together and hit a problem...

Okay me psu comes with 1x4pcieexpress connecter and i am using a 2xmolex to pci express connector for the other one as the card is the Ati 4870 which needs two.
My powersupply is a Akasa 400w 29Amp on 12v rails.

Every connection is correct on motherboard, nothing is unseated and yet when i boot the pc the 4870 displays 3 red lights and runs fan at 100% which i read means no power?

So is it likely the connector is crap?
    Wrong diagnosis?
    Any other ideas?

    thanks.

borrow a multimeter from a friend or buy one from maplin that takes AAA batteries for 15s and have a read about measuring psu volatge from an online guide to get it right.

is the PSU new? is it high enough wattage?

have you checked the setup with a different gfx card?

normally you would take out the mainboard and check it away from the aluminium of the case all plugged in on a cardboard base.

then you would try a different psu and gfx to see which one is playing up.

even if the psu voltage reads ok on the multimeter it might drop to 11.5 on when plugged in which would trigger the gfx error message.

    hope you get it running.

I trust this is a typo, as PCIe connectors come in 6pin or 8pin varieties, not 4 pin! Otherwise you've probably tried to jam the ATX 12V connector in the graphics card, which may well not do it much good...
