A few years ago, ASUS were getting some stick for the poor contact between heatsink and chip on some of their motherboards. In some cases it was necessary remove the heatsink and reapply the thermal paste. I thought this was a temporary issue but a recent comparative review, which included the £286 Rampage 3 Extreme no less, said 'Stock TIM and mounting of the heatpipe needs better QC'.

Does anyone know if this is still a problem and, if so, on which models? I'm not considering buying the Rampage 3 in particular but I don't feel inclined to risk damage to the heatpipe (and warranty!) of a new motherboard. If there's any doubt, I'll go with Gigabyte.
Any thoughts/experiences please?
