On the connector panel there will be dvi/vga ports to plug your monitor into.

i dont know if this motherboard does?

anybody know, i dont thinks its a dvi, vga or anything else?
Nope the 870chipset doesn't have onboard graphics.
The 880G or 890GX of the newer amd chipsets do have onboard graphics.
Always just pick up some very cheap pci-e card off ebay just to get it up and running for now.
Also handy to have as a back up graphics card just in case.![]()

Not necessarily. Keep in mind some of the newer Intel CPUs have the graphics chip and thus some motherboards don't necessarily carry onboard graphics, just the DVI/VGA/HDMI ports. On those motherboards if you get a CPU without the integrated GPU, you'd need a dedicated graphics card.
I really have lost track of the Intel naming scheme. It's a complete mess at the moment. Why couldn't they just name the CPUs with the integrated GPUs something else? i3G or something. Or is that registered to Apple?
Not even Nvidia make it this hard.

No, low end discrete graphics cards only use about 20W peak. That's only going to bother your PSU if you're already running on the ragged edge, in which case you should be thinking about upgrading the PSU anyway
What PSU and what other components?
tony_dudz (15-11-2010)
Umm I think he might of meant the other way around, a PSU far more powerful than that's required will not damage the pc, it'll just run rather inefficiently.
However conversely Jim is correct that low end cards use very little power and shouldn't push you over the edge, if it did then you really should replace the PSU anyway.

its this one cat http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124922
Compucase artic power
Oh dear, well never mind, that's not a good brand at all, they are one step up from some of the real junk PSU's, covered front to back in half truths and rely on the name sounding a bit like Arctic Cooling to make people think that they are made by AC.
These power supplies are just about passable, and would of been very good 10years ago (which is when the internal design is from) stick it in a basic non-gameing computer that doesn't have a high to mid range graphics card + a low end cpu with no overclocking, and it's fine, nothing special but fine.
Any thing more than that and forget it.
Replace that psu before you stick a mid/high end gpu in your pc, as all you'll do is risk killing your hardware.

over 30amps on both the 3.3v and 5v rails but just 18amp on the 12v
Oh and not forgetting
High Efficiency 75%
when 75% is the base minimum for ATX specifications
Or here's a really good one
6 pin power adapter for PCI-Express graphic cards supports nVIDIA SLI technology
I'd like to draw your attention to the word adapter yes that's right no separate pic-e 6pin lead just a single molex to 6pin adapter and what's worse is that it's a single molex plug to 6pin pic-e
What's so funny about that? well pci-e 6pin lead is rated 75watts max, and a single molex is rated at 60watts max
And let's not even look into how you're supposed to power an SLi setup with just a single adapter and a single 18a 12v rail.
