My PC sound just stopped workin

For the last few days my PC sound has just stopped working. So I installed a SB Audigy2 and that didn't work either. I am positive it's not a driver problem because yesterday when I started the PC it played the start up tune for about a second then it cut out and again and no sound. I have also tried playing it with head phones and had no luck so I know it's not the speakers. I have a MSI KT333 ARU mobo with an XP2500. I have XP.
Anyone know if they can help?

Hi bobby sixkiller, it could be your audio codecs, you could give this a try, if this do's not work then perhaps you may need to do a complete re-install of windows.

    Go to 'device manager'
At the top of the menu is 'View'
    Pick 'Show hidden devices'
In the menu below pick 'Sound, video and game controllers'
Remove all entrys inside there and restart the PC

XP should re-install all your sound drivers and codecs, then your sound should start working again.. (Hopefully)

Perhaps other people might have some more advice before trying my one out.

Are the cables on the speakers stretched at all? as they have come lose.....Best to do a visual check and re-push the connectors into the computer/amp/sub whatever set up you are using.
