Spec my bro cheap gaming rig

So my brother isn't happy with how Black Ops is running on his C2D with an 8800GT so I said I'd price him up a new system.

    He requires

    *Motherboard
    *CPU
    *4GB RAM
    *Graphics Card

    The rest we have.

It needs to be as cheap as possible and we're trying for at least a constant 60fps on Black Ops. (He currently gets anywhere between 30-60)

    Any thoughts?

Re: Spec my bro cheap gaming rig

Can't recall from the top of my head what he currently has, I know its a C2D around 2.6GHz, a 512MB 8800GT with 4GB standard DDR2 RAM, not sure on the motherboard, some generic rubbish.

He will be playing at 1680x1050

Thanks for the link I'll check it out

I would check what the model of the motherboard is and whether it is compatible with quad core processors. If you can get a used Q6600,Q6700,Q8300 or Q8400 and a GTX460 768MB or 1GB it should do the job IMHO.

You may need to get a new PSU as the GTX460 needs a pair of PCI-E power conectors.

This Antec modular unit is made by Seasonic:
