Re: Need advice & opinions for my new build
Yes, sli generally work but one card rendering the top "half" of the screen the other card rendering the bottom "half"
("half" because the dividing line is dynamic and shifts depending on the workload)
The performance "gain" will be very dependent on the game played, the settings and the resolution.
As I said the gtx460 1gb can currently cope with the most common high resolution monitors 1920x1080 (1080p) on the most demanding games atm, it's mainly when you look at the addition demands of 3d vision or multiple monitor setups when sli really comes into play.
Also some games run better with sli than others.
Currently games are outstripped by the performance of top end hardware.
I'm still on 1680x1050 like you and my gtx260 is not yet struggling at this resolution, with all the settings maxed.
Re: Need advice & opinions for my new build
Personally I'm going with 850 watts for future builds and not just this build. I don't want to spend extra later on. And also allow me to possibly go SLI for this current build. If this isn't something for you then I would recommend going with something from Seasonic in the ranges of 600 watts.
In terms of graphics, that Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 460 looks nice! Thanks for the link tom.
I'm pondering over which one:
1GB Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 460 Super Overclock 815MHz Graphics Card
GV-N460SO-1GI - 1GB Gigabyte GTX 460 Super OC, 4000MHz GDDR5, GPU 815MHz, Shader Clock 1630MHz, 336 Cores
£167.39 Inc VAT (£153.99 from ebuyer)
OR
1GB EVGA NVIDIA GTX 460 FTW Graphics Card
01G-P3-1377-ET - 1GB EVGA GTX 460 FTW, 4000MHz GDDR5, GPU 850MHz, Shader 1700MHz, 336Cores, 2xDL DVI-I, 1xMiniHDMI
£170.92 Inc VAT
Is EVGA any worth over-rating than the gigabyte one? The review on the gigabyte one also is good on the card too. Anyone would like to comment?
Re: Need advice & opinions for my new build
personally I'd go for the gigabyte out of those two
or the MSI hawk talon attack
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-m...ores-mini-hdmi
although I must admit I'm amazed on some of these overclocks don't normally see this sort of level on manufactures cards only on personal overclockers normally with volt modding.
Re: Need advice & opinions for my new build
You've been getting some good advice since I last looked in, and you new build list looks like it could be an excellent pc.
As for your gpu, I like the 1GB MSI GTX460 HAWK Talon Attack as mentioned by Pob, and it's at a good price.
Re: Need advice & opinions for my new build
Hey. Just wanted to update everyone who cared to help.
Thanks everyone a lot for the assistance. I pretty much went with the final list and here's what I got.
Case:
Lian Li Chassis - PC-8FIB Aluminium Tower Black
(Today Only Item) Mobo + CPU:
Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 1366 Motherboard
Intel CPU i7 950 Quad Core Processor
GPU:
1GB Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 460 Super Overclock 815MHz Graphics Card
RAM:
Corsair Memory XMS3 Classic 6GB DDR3 1600 Mhz CAS 8 Triple Channel Desktop
PSU:
Corsair CMPSU-850HXUK HX 850W Modular Power Supply (PSU)
HDD:
Samsung 1Tb Spinpoint F3 Hard Drive - HDD
Total came to £940, including VAT and shipping. My camera was out of battery when I was building so I never got a chance to take a pic. I'll take a pic of the build when I've got it in my room.
I'm really glad about everything. If it was a tiny bit cheaper, I think I would be impressed in terms of bang for buck. The case is really awesome and just stunning to look at. Looks and feels quality. Everything is also as expected and running just predicted.
And again, Thank you all who helped me reduce the price and still keep or increase the specs! The PSU is the only slightly overkill thing in the spec, but it's at least capable handling stuff for the future, so should keep me from spending more cash later on.
EDIT:
Here's a screenshot of the Windows 7 score:

I think it looks decent, I specifically went with the HDD simply because I thought I'd wait for the sales of SSD's.
P.S. This straight away from after installing Windows 7. Didn't install drivers. If there's a difference I'll update this post.
Re: Need advice & opinions for my new build
Nice 1 Savas, bet you are happy. Im going to start buying bits n peices for a new build, was going to start with a case today. Does anyone know if Scan still offer free delivery to Hexus users?
Savas, is there going to be a price drop in the SSD hardware soon?
