    Roccat Kave Headset

    Hi,

This is in response to a recent thread about headsets. I just got my Kaves delivered yesterday so I thought I'd share my initial impressions.

I'll ignore the packaging, looks and box contents as that info is in any review you can find online.

For me these were really easy to set up, no hassles at all in that dept. I have them connected to the 5.1 jacks on my mobo although I am considering a Xonar DG upgrade.
The sound positioning and the sheer scale of the sound from these is impressive. Compared to my old Turtle Beach headset these give a much grander sense of scale and space. I'm no audiophile but I can definitely hear sound details I wasn't picking up before and they immerse you much more in the movie you're watching or game you're playing. I'm sure with time they'll also help to improve my gaming skills (or lack thereof).
My friend, who is an audiophile DJ, listened to his music with these and was impressed but did say they lacked bass at volume and they were quite treble-y. So they're not meant for mastering music tracks but, then again, no one ever suggested they were.

For a great gaming and movie headset, these are hard to beat. And they are rock solid - the build quality is top notch.

The one downside to this though is the weight. Like all headphones they will take a little time to adjust to my head but I have noticed the middle pad on the headband pressing down and becoming a little uncomfortable. Hopefully this will pass as they adjust to my misshapen head.

Anyway I just thought this might help anyone thinking about treating themselves to a pair for xmas

    Re: Roccat Kave Headset

Whats the wire like leading into the headphone itself, braided or just standard?

Having been through two pairs of Sharkoon X-Tactics i don't want to buy another headset which develops faults so easily
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Hi,

The cable is standard, not braided, but it feels sturdy and its only about one metre in length to the desktop remote so it won't get tangled in wheels etc. There is another, thicker cable that leads from the remote to the PC. I think that's about 2 metres long.

All in all this feels extremely well put together but I've only had it for a day so only time will tell if it actually is built to last.

I suppose beacuse there are more speakers built into this there is more potential for something to go wrong but I think they come with a 2yr warranty. AFAIK Scan cover the 1st 12 months.
They really do feel like they can take some punishment though...

    Hope this helps
