    1090T + M4A89GTD- Bargain???

Basically am planning on buying the AMD Phenom 1090T + M4A89GTD for £160 from a mate.

It seems like a great deal to me and I've heard the M4A89GTD is really good (It isn't the USB 3.0 version, but I dont mind)

Just a quick check to make sure this is truly the bargain I think it is?

Ooo and are there any particular questions i should ask him. (I've asked about warrantys etc.)

    Thanks

    Re: 1090T + M4A89GTD- Bargain???

Yup it's a bargain as the CPU alone is more than £160, even second hand is probs over that price. I assume the board is good too although I can't find anything on the non USB 3.0 version, it should have the 890GX NB along with the SB850 chipset which is pretty good.

Basically: Yes, it's a great deal!

Yes, if it's not faulty. I paid pretty much double that in June.

    Re: 1090T + M4A89GTD- Bargain???

See about the warranty and does it come with a cooler?

The stock cooler is okay, probably not great for overclocking.

Looks like a good deal to me; Its AMD's flagship chip. The motherboard is probably the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO(?). As opposed to the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3.

Yeah they both have over a years warranty left - it does come with the stock cooler, but i'll be replacing that.

Its not the USB3 version. Im going to buy it once i get paid leaving only a graphics card to complete the rig

    Re: 1090T + M4A89GTD- Bargain???

    Ok, so slight hitch.

Doesnt come with SATA cables or an I/O shield.

As regard to the SATA cables does SATA III make a difference (I have a C300) or should i just grab some cheap ones.

Will i just be able to email ASUS and request a new I/O shield?

All SATA cables will take SATA 6gbps speeds.

    Re: 1090T + M4A89GTD- Bargain???

Also all sata cables will also do 1.5gb (sata1) There is only One set of sata cable specs.
Cable quality can have an effect but the main factor is normally distance, but anything under 1m shouldn't matter.
There is also general quality, I've had very cheap sata cables where the plug has broken and I am careful not to flex them too much or bend them at too sharp an angle.

Main things I'd look for is a latching connector, the correct heads (when you have right angled connectors make sure they are going in the right direction for you needs) and cable length.

It's not easy to shorten a sata and even the best quality don't like being bent that much, so cables that are too long can be a real headache to cable manage.

Erm... maybe it's just the paranoia in me, but I'd be a bit worried getting a "bargain" motherboard, chip & cooler if it doesn't have any of the accessories and manuals.

Fair enough if it's all in the original packaging with just an owner who is especially good at mislaying bits and pieces, but if it's just bare, then I'd be thinking it's a Del Boy special.

    Re: 1090T + M4A89GTD- Bargain???

Personally - unless you're particuarly OCD about these things - I wouldn't bother about the IO shield. I've run computers without them before for a variety of reasons and haven't encountered any problems at all. Although there's a reasonable chance ASUS will just dispatch a spare, mobo manufacturers seem to be particularly good about that kind of thing...

    Which pproach would you use?

    A) The honest approach - tell them you got it second had with no shield and you want one now.
    B) The silent approach - try to not actually tell them whats going on.
    C) approach with lashings of BS? A dog ran off with it? Lost/stolen.....

Nice to have a giggle on Friday afternoon (I'm busy downloading 150MB of excel spreadsheets that have to be posted on a work website by 5pm )

Personally I'd just go with "I have XXXXXXX motherboard and have mislaid the IO shield, please could you advise me how to obtain a new one?"

For me, asking them for advice is the key, because then it doesn't sound like you're asking them to send you a new one, you're asking how to get one. But I don't like being too forward with companies: if you're more brash than me you could just ask for one outright

Yeah once i have the serial number I'll email then. To begin with "advise me how to obtain a new one" - if that doesn't work I'll come up with an outlandish excuse which they will have to buy

See my new venus fly trap was.....

    Cheers guys
