    casecom 6788 hard drive rails

    Hello everyone.

I just picked one of these up since they've had alot of recommendations.

However, mine only came with 3 pairs of hard drive rails meaning I can only fit 3 hdds of a possible 5. I really need to fit 4 hard drives, and I can't really see how you could screw in the hdds.

So I'm wondering what on earth I should do? Should I return the case, change for another case? I don't really know. I can't see where to buy any more of these rails.

    would these be OK? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Green-HDD...#ht_1617wt_905

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

That's odd mine came with 4 sets

could give those rails a go, they "look" right, but I'd contact ebuyer first, it should of had 4 sets.

Although I'll warn you cableing is a right nightmare with 4 drives in there as there's little room to stuff the cables in and getting the right side panel back on becomes a bit of a struggle.
I'm considering getting some of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Short-15cm-Rig...item2c58c23623
    To make my cabling easier.

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

im probably going to change cases. ive setup an rma with ebuyer stating that there should have been 4.

thinking as options of change -

antec 200 (since you can't find the 300 anywhere?)
    nzxt beta evo
    coolermaster 430 elite

just want something with decent air cooling and good hdd room.

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

Ok not cheap but have a look at the HAF 912 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...r-case-w-o-psu
6x internal 3.5"bays and at 230mm wide there's a ton of space for cabling

Not enough for you? then look no further than the Sharkoon rebel12 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/rebel...wless-mounting
6x 3.5" internal bays and 12 5.25" bays, so ether use the simple 3.5" to 5.25" bay adaptors or the 4 in 3 drive cages, making a max of 22x 3.5" hard drives possible

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

    cheers for the reply.

yeah i looked at the haf 912 last night for a long time. I think it may 'just' fit in the space I have. But I'd have to buy a 20mm fan for the top, which tbh - i don't want to do.

    I was looking at,

antec 600 (51@scan) really good air cooling?
cm 430 elite as it seems to have very good cooling for its price range, supposedly better than nzxt beta evo (but not as good cable management) and is only £26 this weekend.

want to stay on the low side of £50 if poss, the haf 912 was defo tempting tho.

edit: actually, you can use 2x120mm instead on the haf912. I've got a lot of these so would be ok.

How's its cooling? Is the antec 600 better?

also the case is going in a cupboard with about 23.5cm of room, so there would only be 1/2 cm room for the haf 912 in there, don't know if its a little bit too tight?

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

cant decide what to do here!

is the haf 912 worth £58 over the cm 430 elite for £26? Considering my space req.

I just need a solid case that has adequate cooling and cable management.

I really like the haf and it has excellent reviews, but the 430 does also for its price range.

    cheers

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

Yes i know what you mean, it's a right I want that HAF 912 but I just cannot justify the price.

The Antec 600, yes good cooling, not great cable management, it's pretty much the same as the 300 just slightly larger. ie you have to stuff all the cables in the gap behind the 3.5" bay which is offset.

430 vs evo beta for cooling, no real difference, the 90degree HDD cage in the evoBeta does restrict air flow over the hard drives slightly but not but a great amount, infact the fact the evo beta can mount 140mm fans on top would actually give it slightly better potential cooling.
However the nromal front/back layout of the 430 will cause issues for long graphics cards if you have 5 Hdd in it

picture that with 4 more drives below it

Air flow is heavily influenced by the fans stick some high air flow 2600rpm 38mm deep fans in that casecome 6788 and it's going to have massive air flow, it'll also sound like a jet engine but that's your trade off.

Cable management is always going to be a bit of an issue in a basic ATX mid tower size of case esp with 5x HDD

One fan in the front to feed air in over hard drives, a rear and top (or two top) fans to extract heat is pretty much all you need in most cases.

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

    thanks pob.

WIth the fact in mind that I have a cupboard (for the pc to go in) that is 23.5cm wide, and the haf 912 is 23cm wide! Is there any point getting it since the side fan won't really work well? Or is a sidefan not really worth it?

I really like the haf 912, its a brilliant case for the money.

I read a review that said the cm 430 is better at cooling than the nzxt beta evo by a few degrees which I found interesting.

What would you do? I'm not gonna bother with the antec tho.

If they where only looking at the case with the single fan that they come with.
The question is what it's like when fully fitted with fans?

Well personally I don't like the old style hard drive mounting in the 430, I've never really been that keen on it it only secures the drive in the middle and one end and means you have to take both panels off to get the screws out
The Antec 600 is the same, however the bays are longer so the screw (thumb screws I believe) go into the front and back of the drive not the middle.
the 600 also includes a single hot swapable bay in it, what looks like a 3.5" external bay is actually a flip up cover, you just slot a 3.5" sata hrad drive into it.

Cabling is a bit more of an issue with the 600 and personally I think it's ugly, Ok I'm not a great fan of the HAF 912+ look ether, however the HAF is a little more consistant in it's design where as the 600 just seems to be different bit's of different designs jammed together (still better looking than the new dark fleet cases though)

One of the big attractions for me on the HAF 912+ is the width and 90degree hard drives which I MUCH prefer over the normal layout.

What we want is a case based off the HAF 912 frame but with the styling of the 690 or elite 335
I'd also like it if Coolermaster released the slightly cheaper basic HAF912, no black interia and just 120mm fans pre-fitted and cheaper, but's that's because it would be a better blank canvas for modding

You could look around for a 2nd hand case like the original 690 or 590 or even the Antec 300
Although I would of complained to ebuyer got some more drive rails from them and then some short sata cables and stuck with the 6788

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

The CM Elite 430 is a great case for the price. I just did a budget AM3 build for someone using one and it was really well made inside, it's a little bit shorter than my Antec 300 but really well made and the system went together quite easily indeed

Can't comment on what cooling is like, although I suspect good with a few extra fans in there and it was pretty silent too for what it cost.

from what I've read earlier you said that it is tight in there, and its going to house at least 4, probably more like 5-6 in future hard drives. Don't want it to be too cramp in there.

Re: casecom 6788 hard drive rails

Ahh 5 or 6 forget it, it's a bit of a struggle with 4, getting short data cables should make a big improvement and redoing the sata power lead (I'm planning on redoing my psu lead so I just have right angled heads correctly spaced.)

I'd say go with the HAF 912, however a basic coolermaster case, like the 430, would be ok but only if you're not planning on having a long graphics card.
Hunting down a coolermaster 590 or original 690 would be a good alternative

Actually you might want to consider this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/shark...r-case-w-o-psu
Shrakoon rebel9 Pro economy, you can use cages (not supplied) or adaptors for each drive (6 supplied)
    Additional adaptors if needed http://www.scan.co.uk/products/shark...ightfall+Case+

    http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/conten...l9-pro-economy

The rebel9 pro has been overlooked, mainly because when it came out the Antec 300 was cheaper.

At that price it's the basic and the advanced so lacks the hotswap external tray and a couple of other small features, however a great price for that case
