    £600 Gaming Build - i5 & 460 - Checking

Hey guys... couldn't buy the last machine I specced up due to becoming basically homeless for a month but now I have a new flat and time for a new machine! Just wanted some opinions on the following spec:

    Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 - £100
    i5 760 - £140
    CoolerMaster 430 with 500W PSU - £53
    4GB Corsair XMS3 (2x 2GB) - £51
    nVidia 1GB GTX 460 - £140~
    Samsung F3 500GB - £31
    Samsung F3/4 2TB - £65
    Samsung 22x DVD-RW - £12
    300MBs Wifi N card - £17

Any changes? The 500GB is system / install drive and the 2TB is storage (to be expanded with future 2TB's as needed).

I know sandybridge is round the corner but we don't know 100% what the cost will be like and to be honest its never the right time to buy a computer so if I got the cash and want a PC might as well just take the plunge... at least its tried and tested

    Re: £600 Gaming Build - i5 & 460 - Checking

Skimping on the PSU is not a good idea IMHO and the Coolermaster Elite series are not that great AFAIK.

I would consider the following build:

    Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £114

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190673

    MSI 870A-G54 ~ £65

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/205849

Has USB3.0 and SATA3.0 and can do RAID 0,1,5 and 10.

    4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £57

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169240

    HD5870 1GB ~ £190

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/248887

Antec 520W High Current Gamer PSU ~ £60

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/245671

    Coolermaster Elite 430 ~ £37

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/233740

    Samsung F3 500GB ~ £32

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146252

    Samsung F4 2TB ~ £70

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/237908

    SATA DVD rewriter ~ £12

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176026

    Tenda Wireless-N300 PCI Adapter ~ £15

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155641

The total comes to around £652.

I agree with CAT-THE-FIFTH on the PSU, don't get a cheap one. You can get a 500W modular OCZ psu for around £54.

Also, make sure that the WiFi N Card supports Windows7.

I've heard that Samsung HDD's aren't that reliable, I suggest you get a Western Digital (blue) for roughly the same price.

I have had Samsung hard drives in my desktops for the last few years and they were fine although YMMV. If you are getting a Western Digital hard disk the Caviar Black is similar in speed to the standard Samsung F3 AFAIK.
