What wattage PSU do I need?

My Enermax galaxy 850 watt PSU seemed to go just dead (was fine one night, refuses to power on next morning, not even light on rear switch). It's not the best timing to need a new PSU as it's an expensive time of year.

Before I start looking at new PSU's, I need to know what wattage I need to look at. I've got an e6600 on a p5k deluxe board, 4gb ram, 2 sata drives and 2 optical drives, along with a couple of pci cards and a gt240 gfx card.

I am looking for a reasonably priced PSU (absolute max would be £100 but would prefer to spend around half of that). I am more concerned about the quality (and how quiet it is) than a bit of a difference in price, as I know generally you get what you pay for with PSU's.

Are Corsair's still one of the best makes? Are there particular models in my price range (any make) which are quiet (er) than others? Also, has anyone had experience of Novatech's own branded PSU's?

Can anyone recommend a good psu?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

You know your current system probably used less than 250W at full pelt in games.

Corsair VX550 is going to be more than enough for your current system.
Get a TX650 if you want more headroom (should still be able to handle any single cpu socket and single card GPU configuration)

I recommend checking whether your Galaxy is still in warranty, I'm sure they normally have 3 years.

it's about 3-4 years old as I got it when I bought my e6600 cpu (and that was around the time it was released). Suprised it's gone though as I've never pushed it hard.

Have you looked for a fuse inside?

Re: What wattage PSU do I need?

Yes not good I would check the warranty, although if you didn't register it then you've lost it anyway.

A good 400-450w is all you'd need for that.

    a e6600 + gt240 + 2 HDD really doesn't use much in the way of power.

Silver power (Seasonic made) 400w http://www.scan.co.uk/products/400w-...mm-fan-atx-12v
