    New PC Time! 3XS

Well my media centre has died a death and the merry-go-round of hardware contiunes so my missue's AM2 5200+ is to be moved to be a Media Centre and my Q6600 is to be her new PC and so I have to get a new one! Oh dear

I have posted this already in the Scan section but I though I would ask for a bit of input here.

This is what I am looking at now

    Scan 3XS

    CPU

i7 2600k @ What ever you can get out of it

    RAM

    8GB Ram (looking at Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB)

    HDD

    64GB SSD (Crucial C300?)

    Motherboard

    Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard

    Cooler

Corsair Hydro Series H70 (or H50 depending on space)
if you could get hold of a couple of Föhn 120 Wing fan for the H70/H50 (its blue like the MB)

    PSU

PSU = I was looking at 750W Corsair CMPSU-750HXUK but not sure at the moment maybe some advice here?

    Soundcard

    Asus Xonar DX/XD 7.1

    GPU

    My own 4890 Vapor-x

    Other Stuff

    DVD R/W Drive
Black or Blue SATA Cables (same colour tone as the motherboard)
White Neons if I go with a windowed case

    Case

    I can't decide on either

    Lian-Li PC-8NWX, Black
Fractal Design Define R3, Black Pearl
    or
    Coolermaster CM 690 Pure Black

No OS, no storage drive and no shipping needed as I can collect it

    ----------------------

    Fan

    Board

    PSU

I see no general problem, psu a bit ott unless you plan to add a 2nd card, but it is a very good one if I remember correctly.

    Re: New PC Time! 3XS

    A few questions:
Do you have a particular reason to get the 2600k apart from raw numbers. i.e. do you have a specific task(s) in mind for this much CPU power?
Why have you gone for the 750W PSU? Are you planning on going crossfire/SLI in the future? Is it just because you're planning on overclocking?

I personally would go for a 2500k with an H67 motherboard and a lower rated PSU so I could get a larger SSD, but I don't know your planned uses so that's pretty irrelevant right now

My actual plan is to wait for ivy bridge unless my machine goes pop. Your hand seems to have been forced

Like Badass i might be tempted to get the 2500k over the 2600k (unless you need hyperthreading)
Also I can vouch for the Cruical C300; i've got a 64gb model and it's lightning

Looks like a decent setup. Come join the folding team if you get that much cpu power.

    Re: New PC Time! 3XS

    All looks good.

I can vouch for the PSU being excellent - almost silent and never missed a beat, with borderline 80+ Gold efficiency. It is probably overkill but on the plus side it will remain quiet, and given that the cost is very similar to the Seasonic X-650 and 6xxW Enermax models you may as well get the extra wattage. Going down to 5xxW and you loose the second pair of PCI power cables that would be required for an additional GPU.

Regarding the case, the Fractal really is superb, especially in the flesh.

PSU is in case I want to go crossfire in the future may as well pay now rather than have to pull the entire thing apart later.

I do a bit of gaming but also a bit of video editing and encoding

Storage wise I have eSATA and quite a number of TB of NAS storage hence only wanting 64GB of SSD, I think my 500GB setup I have now has about 35GB used.

An i7-2600K at 4.9GHz will do 30k ppd on the folding side of things!
    So do that.

Depending on your finances, I'd probably go for the 2500k and spend the extra money on something else. IIRC they don't perform that differently using the quicksync engine but don't quote me on that

    HX620 would be ample, I've run OC'd Q9550 + a pair of 4870s on mine before.
