Can someone remind me quickly how to do this from a USB drive?
Let's not have an argument over whether this is a sensible thing to do or not, I'm going to do it so iirc I need to format the USB drive to FAT32 and then copy the bios onto it (I have the bios version I want) then in existing bios there is an option or something?
Seems accurate enough to me. Does your motherboard manufacturer not have any instructions on the website?

Depends on if the motherboards BIOS has a feature to self update like the Gigabyte Q-flash (or whatever they called it)
But, Yes the USB pen has to be formated in FAT or FAT32 and then put the Flash utility and the bios file onto the USB pen. Use the windows CD/DVD to get you into DOS then start the flash utility program from there.
That's how I've done it in the past anyway. IIRC the Gigabyte Q-flash just requires you to press F2(?) from the BIOS.

Just stick the: 'AMIBIOS140' (or whatever yours is called) file on the drive in FAT32 then run the flashing program in the BIOS.
Thats how its worked on my Msi boards anyway. As for allocation unit size, any would be fine IMO, i think the standard is 4096?

Why do I need the windows dvd? I'm running a pc with no dvd drive here tbh so nto an option. I just want to do what I did last time but MSI seem to suggest that I need to put something other than just the BIOS version onto the USB drive?
Extract the full contents of the BIOS archive onto the drive and see if it shows up in the BIOS flashing utility?Originally Posted by nibbler

Just had a quick look at your Board Manual, You only need to copy the BIOS file you downloaded from MSI onto the USB pen then select M-flash from the BIOS menu.
You won't need the CD/DVD to use dos.
It didn't show up in m-flash, should I have the whole folder there or just the bios file?
Also, do I need to creat a partition?

Who knows, left it on overnight and she's still going. 4k ppd seems to be the figure it's settled at while running a 500k unit.
Think it's worth trying to lower the vcore a bit queelis? I don't want it to freak out on me, it's at 1.37 where I whacked it for the sake of eliminating that as an issue but irrc the vid of the chip is 1.3 so with an extra core and cache I thought it best to be safe rather than sorry
