    ???Motherboard problem????

Ok well i got my motherboard and asus m4a89gtd pro alongside an amd 95w 1055t and assembled the rig with ocz ram. One of the modules of ram was faulty so i sent it to rma, they sent my a new pair which did not work and the memok button could not even fix it, also the beeps from the motherboard was 1 long one and two short ones continuosuly and I checked in the motherboard manual it said it means no memory is detected. Another problem I had is that tthere would be no screen activity, I dont see anything maybe it is related to no ram being detected.

Sent it again, same thing as above happened, sent it again , and again same thing happened, the next time they tested it and sent it but still it is happening, the ocz guy said we tested it on the same motherboard and it worked and we sent it. So is my motherboard slots faulty or is ocz just looking for something to blame it on

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

Does it work with a different CPU? The memory controller is on the CPU remember, and if the socket is damaged it can also affect things.

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

I dont know , I dont have any spare am3 cpu's this is my first rig but it did work with one 2gb module doesnt that eliminate the chance of a deffective memory controller or a damaged socket

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

If it worked with 1 stick but not both it could be a controller problem on one memory channel, or (I had this happen to me back in the early days of Socket 939) a BIOS problem - I mean, I'd seriously hope that there wouldn't be any companies shipping boards with a BIOS that messes up with dual channel memory, but I had one years back that did, so it's just a thought.

Brainstorming: Does it work with one stick all the time? Does it work with any stick as long as you only have one in? Does it work with one stick in any of the memory slots, or just in certain slots? Does it work if you put two sticks in but using the same channel (i.e. *not* running dual channel memory)? If the answer to any of these questions is yes it definitely points to a memory controller (i.e. CPU) or motherboard issue...

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

I've had this before, when I unplug my rig from the mains it doesn't like having two sticks, it's happened twice and both times i've ran with 2gb for a couple of weeks then when i slot in the second it doesn't seem to mind.

Seems unlikely, that's certainly not the problem here anyway. It just seems to be a bug. Try dropping the clocks to 1333.

nibbler I cant see the bios there is nothing on the screen it remains blank and black, yet when i remove the dvi cable it says no signal, is this what happens when no memory is detected?

oh sorry if i confused you , but the one stick was working i sent it for rma as they said send it in a kit so we can give a matching pair and they did exactly that they gave a matching pair (that dont work) but this last set of ram was supposedly tested and i dont know anyone who owns a pc with ddr3

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

Uhh this is with 2 sticks in? And it boots with 1 stick? With my board if it's playing up then it will boot with 2 sticks then crash somewhere in boot. It then slips into complete stability once it's going, but it's sometimes hard to persuade my board to behave with 2 sticks.

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

sorry nibbler i edited my last post (sorry for double post), I dont think i made myself clear enough. The working stick i had with my first set of ram, i sent it for rma as they wanted the kit to give a matching pair and this is my 4th set that ive had (i sent it 3 times) and currently i have a kit in which both modules dont work

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

Well if the PC won't boot even with 1 module then I'd say RAM is at fault but that seems very unlucky if it's true... you've tried clearing bios a few times? Sometimes no boot at all can be fixed by reseating RAM, GPU, running off integrated GPU, repeatedly rebooting...

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

I am actually really pissed off at ocz, btw i havent got round to buying a gpu as this ram thing has been dragging on for 2 months now !!!!!! I reset cmos not sure if i did it correctly, manual says move the ctrc or ctrlc jumper or wateva it was to pins 2-3 for 5-10 seconds and move it back again while it is not connected to the mains. I did that a number of times and i also removed the battery and reset cmos a number of times still no luck. Can anyone guarantee its not the motherboard so i can buy some corsair ram, or would scan refund me the money after i try the ram and find out that my motherboard is the actual problem

is resetting cmos resetting bios ?

edit: werid idea in my head but anyway is it possible that my motherboard is burning the ram or something when i put it in would it overvolt it and damage the ram, because i really cant believe that ocz will send me faulty ram 4 times

    Re: ???Motherboard problem????

Hmm I would send the RAM back and buy a new set or something, or buy this or similar, see if that works. Then at least you could eliminate RAM as a problem. Sounds like a MOBO fault to me tbh.

CMOS = where BIOS is stored IIRC

uh yeah sure, don't see why a 1gb DIMM wouldn't work. Talk to Scan first, see what they say, they'll just put you onto ASUS if it's not their business. Post in the forums or a call will do the trick.
