    ASUS Memory channel, a1 a2, b1, b2...

    Hi

just bought a ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3 board and some KINGSTON KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX Ram "2x2 GB".

I am waiting for the case and psu to come so i thought i would pop the chip and ram in, the board has 2 black slots then 2 blue slots.
    from the bottom up

    B1 - BLUE
    A1 - BLUE
    B2 - BLACK
    A2 - BLACK

    on page 1-11 it says channel A - A1 + A2 CHANNEL B - B1 + B2.

I take that to mean that i should stick my ram in one blue one black, a1 and a2 to give me a dual channel configuration running on channel A

On page 1-12 it says - install the DDR3 1600 or higher frequency DIMMS on the blue slots for better overclocking performance.

This would give me a DIMM in A1 + B1. this would be single channel? can anyone decrypt this? its confused the hell out of me.

I'm pretty sure Asus colour code their DIMM slots so I'd put them both into the same colour slots for now and get the board running and check with CPU-Z to check if it's running a dual channel config. If not then it's not exactly hard to take off the side panel and move a memory stick 1 slot to the right

    I like Ulti's answer.

I've seen board where the colour denotes the channels i.e. RED = channel A and Black = channel B.

    But,

I've also had boards where the colour denotes it is the number of the slot i.e. RED= slot 1 in each channel. etc.

IIRC that isn't to do with the channel setting of the RAM. Download CPU-Z here and open it up, click the "Memory" tab and read what it says next to "Channels #". Won't take more than 5 seconds!
