    Temperatures

So just finished building my 1090T Rig (Graphics card not here yet) and have some questions about temperatures.

Now i tested and measured the temps on my desk (before i put it into the case) and got some really impressive results - idling at 10 degrees.

Now i put it in the Fractal XL and im idling at 21 and during prime95 I go up to 71 degrees. Whats the max temperature i should be having? Are these decent?

I have just reapplied the thermal paste and that helped a little.

    Cheers

Oo and I know people like worklogs and pictures so which section shall i post that in?

    Re: Temperatures

idle at 10 degrees ? is this in a heated room about 20 degrees ?

or was it outside at -4 degrees ?

if its inside at room temp its physically impossible to idle at 10 degrees if the room temp is near on double that.

    Re: Temperatures

Yeah it was on top of my desk and my room is pretty chilly (not -4 mind)
Heated room around 20 degrees, call it 17
I had my CPU cooler with push-pull fans

    Re: Temperatures

anything showing lower than room temp may need a bios update to read the correct temps

    Re: Temperatures

No you cannot be running lower that the air temp unless you're using some form of active chilling (vacuum pump, phase change heat exchanger, peltier cooler, carbon dioxide pellets, Liquid nitrogen)

PS what cpu cooler are you using?

    Re: Temperatures

Actually, if you turned your PC on first thing in the morning, after a cold night in an unheated room, you could for a very short period record a CPU temperature that was lower than the current ambient temperature. I've recorded a temperature as low as 2C on my CPU before: but to be fair that was in an unheated room in midwinter so may have been an accurate reading at above ambient temperature

However, you wouldn't get a stable temperature that low, it would slowly creep up to a bit above ambient (which yours obviously has, since you show it idling in the low 20s).

I assume you're using the stock cooler that came with the CPU? If so the temps are probably about right (the stock cooler on my Q6600 keeps it to around 70C fully loaded), although they're a touch on the high side (the stock cooler is basically designed to provide the absolute minimum required cooling). If you're thinking about overclocking - or even just turning the heating up - get a better cooler

    Re: Temperatures

    62°C apparently.

I would also suggest a BIOS update!

    Re: Temperatures

Well I'm using the NoiseBlocker TwinTec cooler which has push-pull fans so not stock. I know this is relativley unknown, but it worked well for me on another build.

I'm going in for a BIOS update

    Re: Temperatures

So i updated my BIOS to the latest version.
I'm now seeing lows of 17 degrees and on 100%load a very, quick increase to 68
So this is slightly lower than before? Hmmm
    Any thoughts?

    Re: Temperatures

Was the other build AM2 / AM3? Given that you're using a big tower cooler with two fans on it, it sounds to me like the cooler isn't seated on the CPU properly if you're ramping right up to 70ish C quickly: like I said, the rubbish stock cooler on my 95W Q6600 manages to keep things to around 70...
